Time for a Omaha to be proactive

Post by Omahacritic »

The city has lost 3 huge events. What is City and Chamber doing to replace them? There may be opportunity this spring, if they move quickly. I mentioned this in the Chamber thread.

A)
Let me put this forward. Major League Baseball. When they finally start their season, MLB will need at least two weeks of “spring” training. Arizona will be too hot. (even in May it hits 100+] Omaha summers are relatively mild. We have a MLB quality stadium downtown and an adequate stadium in West O. Creighton and UNO have workout facilities. Even dorm rooms. Local Colleges also have practice facilities.

The Chamber should lure 3-6 teams to hold their new “spring training” in Omaha. It will make up some lost revenue from CWS.

Also, West Coast teams may not be able to play in their states right away. They might need temporary stadiums.

B).
Maybe an NBA game. It’s possible some areas may still be closed when they restart the season.

Omaha should work on these types of things NOW. It might be pie in the sky, but you can’t steal 2nd base if you are standing on 1st.

Good idea about possible hosting a spring training game...that would be awesome.

What ever you are drinking or smoking I will take some of that  Baseball is not going to happen this year dude. It is what it is. The baseball and basketball seasons are history. We now need to move on and hope that we are even going to have a football season. If you don't think the Nebraska football season is sitting on the cliff right about now think again.

Nebraska football is sitting on the edge. Not just the season. I have seen it before and said it before, NU had the hot ticket and they have jacked with the fans enough that once some reason to stop happens, I see a lot of stoppage on the part of the fans.

Baseball has said that when and if the season starts they will do their last training games at their home facilities. Of course that can all change.
For the record  NEBUGEATER does not equal BUGEATER    !!!!!!!

What was that slogan in the 1970’s ... “Omaha Can’t Do” You all are proving it.

Did you guys (skinfanz excepted). ever meet an obstacle you weren’t afraid of?

Grandpa ... maybe they won’t start again. But there are numerous reasons they must try. What would you rather our civic “leaders” be doing ... crying about lost revenue, or, seeking ways to replace it? But, some people just hope they can reach base with Ball Four.

Bugeater ... they have multiple ideas on how to proceed. Nothing is set. And maybe nobody has yet given them a better plan.
Again, you just want to hang your head and say “oh well”?
If you don’t ask, the answer is always NO. And even a “no” let’s people know you are interested. Did you ever apply for a job promotion?

Here’s my next one .... the U.S. is going to bring a few factories home and start home sourcing a few things. Should the Chamber try and lure a pharmaceutical factory? Or some such “vital” factory?
