Austin Texas Super Tall Tower

Post by strangerthings »

1,024 feet. Developer is Lincoln Properties. The project will be a mixed-use tower containing a 240-room hotel, 25 floors of office space, and 34 floors of residential space containing 363 total units. The first and second floor will include an office lobby, a hotel lobby, and retail space, with a 1,780-space parking structure occupying three levels below grade and 12 levels in an above-ground podium, likely above the ground-floor lobby.

Austin is on fire. There is a 2nd tower that has been proposed next to this one that the Austin Skyscraper forum has discussed.

So much highrise growth there!

That's a pretty ugly building. The motivations are definitely height focused, if it happens. If I've learned anything, I'd wait 60-90 days. 1,000 footers are nice, but design matters. They should cut it by a third and make it look better :/

Agreed, you can see the asymmetrical approach thats popular nowadays, but this looks like they lost track of the design at some point.

Design will certainly change this is real preliminary. With demand in Austin I doubt we’ll see much of a height lowering.

I was in Austin last year. The skyline is almost all new ( built in last 30 years). I cannot think of another U.S. skyline that has changed more in the last 20 years than Austin’s. I know Charlotte has changed alot as well but I think Austin has it beat. I wonder how much longer this boom will continue ? Denver’s skyline grew like crazy in the late 70’s to early 80’s but then stopped and remained stagnant for years. Maybe someday Austin will have the biggest skyline in Texas.

From what I've seen Austin has 13 300+ footers under construction or topped out. 3 of those are over 500 ft and 1 is over 800. Another 12 500+ footers are proposed, under review, or approved, several are over 700 ft.

This tower, 98 Red River, will also have the residential amenities, including the pool, in the crown at the top.

I agree, the mid rise portion at the bottom should’ve been the aesthetic of the entire tower. Is anyone familiar with the planning department in Austin and how stringent they are on allowing ugly a** buildings continue with construction?

In my opinion, from the look of the stage of drawings, it’s doubtful the design will noticeably change much at all. Those 3D images and renderings look to have been created from a 3D Revit Model. It takes a large investment in design time, engineering and modeling to get a project to that level of completion in Revit. They’ve probably already sized all of the structural columns and beams and the mechanical/electrical/plumbing systems. So unless the design is totally outright rejected, or the scope changes, what you see is likely what you’ll get. My initial reaction was to cringe a little bit, but I might grow to like it eventually. I’m just not used to that scale.
