Definitely nothing major, but might be a cute little snow/rain starting Wednesday midnight to midnight. It is only projected to be below freezing for a brief period early Wednesday morning when the most is supposed to fall. The rest of the day is projected to be above freezing, but still a possibility a minute amount of snow could fall. Looking at about 1".

It now looks like it'll struggle to get below freezing until the system is pretty much out of here tomorrow night, probably really putting a cap on the snow. It can still snow above freezing and the NWS is still saying it will start tonight/tomorrow morning. Should be a little rain too.

Actually looks pretty decent now. Could be more than .25" of rain and up to 1.7" of snow now.

Now, thankfully, little to no snow or ice impact for Omaha..

Temps are too warm for anything of even a minimal impact. Just a little rain.. Then a pretty boring forecast for the next 5 or so days, which I’ll take...

After a pretty quiet and normal weekend ahead, I see the extended forecast into next week as dry, with highs in the mid to upper 40’s..Which for getting into mid January, sounds great :thumb: ...

Booooo! What we have right now is more my cup of tea. For several days now highs have been consistently around freezing with lows in the 20's. That's what I like, so I'll enjoy it for the next few days.

I remember one year - I think it was 2012 - where the year started with a solid stretch of highs around zero degrees and lows in the -10s. Now that was different.

I’m kind of enjoying the foggy mornings. I’m also surprised the snow hasn’t disappeared faster, It must have had some decent moisture content. Looks like it might be gone next week though.

Next week looks mild most of it should be gone then, 52 on Wednesday will be a nice break. We still haven’t had a big cold snap yet this winter.

Next week, the weather looks great.. Now seeing the possibility of low 50’s temps on Wednesday and Thursday..which should really do some damage in melting that depressing frozen precipitation. I’d love to see most of that white stuff gone by this time next Saturday...

Amazing how abruptly the wind changes from almost nothing to up to almost 60 mph tonight. System should roll in after midnight, might get 2" of snow out of it. Kinda surprising.

I just read after midnight, the Omaha area could get up to 65mph wind gusts.. The snow totals should be minimal for Friday, but the visibility with the blowing snow will make driving pretty hazardous..

Then highs back into the 40’s next week so whatever snow falls, should melt away pretty quickly...

That’s a pretty abrupt change. This time of year, abnormally warm weather sometimes precedes a blast of winter weather as the low pressure system’s counterclockwise rotation pumps in warm air up from the south, followed by a blast of cold on the back side. But you all probably knew that already! Should be interesting. At least the forecast calls for a warm-up again soon thereafter.

Looks like the western half of Iowa is to get the brunt of the storm. 65 mph winds is a concern for us if we end up getting winds that high. Could cause some tree damage and power outages for Omaha.

I totally take what I said earlier back. This wind is NOT my type of weather. The wind right now is just W.R.O.N.G.

And that's crazy how much has changed since this afternoon. They were talking just a winter weather advisory and 1-2", now a blizzard warning and 3-6".

Randby’s 10pm forecast still only calls for about 1-2 inches for Omaha, further east, in Council Bluffs, could see 3ish. But central Iowa will see more of those 3-6 inch totals..

This won’t be a big snow event for Omaha (thankfully); it’s the wind blowing around the snow that makes travel dangerous..

The good news is, highs in the 40’s are still on tap for most of next week with little to no chance of precipitation. I’ll take it :thumb: ...

I would call that a mini-blizzard. About 2 inches at my house, SW Omaha just west of I-680 and W Center rd.

I would all it that. According to the NWS, it was officially 2.4" at Eppley. I guess I'd say I agree with that. On my driveway at least, that was protected from the north winds, it seemed like no more than 3" to shovel, But there were other areas that accumulated more due to the wind blowing the snow in from other areas, trees, etc. Over-all, it was still a pretty dreadful storm IMO. The wind is what did it for me. I'll take 8" of snow on a calm day over 2" on a 60 MPH day, any day.

It's official: All of Nebraska is in drought for the first time in nearly 8 years

https://omaha.com/weather/its-official- ... f4f79b9a67
Nancy Gaarder, OWH wrote:To be sure, this year’s drought is nowhere near as severe as it was in 2013. At that time, the state was beginning to recover from the historic flash drought of 2012, which occurred in the midst of the state’s hottest, driest year on record. This year, extreme drought affects about 25% of Nebraska, whereas in late April 2013, more than 75% was in that bad a shape or worse.

Sounds like after tomorrow, the whole following week will be more like average January. Highs struggling to reach freezing and several small chances for precipitation.

Looks like the confidence in winter weather for tomorrow has gone down some. Not that it was much to begin with, but still looking at an inch of snow, gusty winds, freezing rain, and generally just an unpleasant day.

And it looks like Sunday night is pretty much the same deal. So between the two events, could be 2" of snow and a pretty rotten amount of freezing rain.

Surprising... As of right now the NWS is forecasting 5.2" for the Monday precipitation, then more on Wednesday, with Tuesday being a slight chance sort of day. It could basically snow to a varying degree from midnight Monday to early Wednesday morning... As of right now they aren't saying it isn't going to snow through that whole period.

Wow, this could be a big one if it plays-out that way. No mention of wind as a factor, so far.

Looks like 9-10” inches at my house SW Omaha W. Center rd just west of I-680. Probably one of the bigger snowstorms in the last 10 years.
