Something's been bothering me, and at first I thought it would die down but it hasn't so I will get it off my chest. I have no idea why the BK and Fast Food thread was locked? There were several of us that were actively participating and I think enjoying it. I don't think it was drawing away from other subjects or threads. Was the fact that we were talking fast food offensive to some? Was it to low brow for this site? I didn't see where it could have been perceived as a negative thread to where it needed to be stopped.

Re: Disappointed
LOL - I feel the same way. What difference does it make if we share our thoughts and opinions on BK or any other food place? I'll 100% agree that there are MANY restaurants out there that offer much better food than a place like BK, Wendy's, etc. However, they still do technically support our local commerce in some way plus it's no different than the constant bashing of how crappy Oak View Mall has gotten. Again, I agree with that, just don't see the difference.
Kinda like if you don't want to see/read about then don't go to that thread, right?
Anyway, I still think BK stinks.
Speaking of restaurants that closed and I miss... Grisanti's comes to the top of my mind. Now I've heard they had A LOT of cleanliness issues and other problems in the kitchen which probably makes me rethink the fact I ate at that place quite often. However, I'd love to see someone take their menu/recipes and open up something else. Because Olive Garden doesn't cut it.

Re: Disappointed
Hmm, I didn't notice that. That is disappointing. Just because the BK thread was getting more traffic than any one local food place thread, er what? Anyway, I thought it should have been called "Fast Food Discussion" to include any and all fast food joints. Can't hide it, people love fast food. If yer gonna lock it, just delete it. Somebody should create a new one, because I enjoy discussing fast food joints.

Re: Disappointed
That thread devolved to posts of silliness.. And on an Omaha development and booster site, where many more private/business people lurk (more than anyone would even imagine) to gain intel about the liveliness, economy and sustainable lifestyle of our metropolitan area- for a possible business relocation or residential move into Omaha, talk about BK, which can be found in just about every nook and cranny of the United States and abroad, was an eye roller to begin with.. That it took a deep dive off the cliff the last several posts was the last straw..
Consider this (Rhetorically) what is there about a Burger King (or any national fast food chain) that makes it unique to Omaha? What relevance to Omaha is there when we submit multiple posts talking about how much we love a food item on their menu? Other than mention of them opening or closing in the area- really nothing..
So to be fair, we’ll do what we did with the equally puzzling “McDonald’s Flagpoles” thread, we’ll reopen the BK thread and move it from the “Dining Culture & Entertainment Forum” to the more appropriate location- “The Bar & Grill Forum”..and people can continue to fire away with BK discussion..
And thanks for voicing your disappointment and opinion Greg.. It is much appreciated

That thread had become a magnet for the crackpots. You would have to be blind not to see it. You had folks posting in that thread in the middle of the night all bent out of shape and angry that someone had said something unpleasant about their beloved Burger King. What that moderator did was known as "nipping the problem in the bud." It was only going to get a whole lot worse and fast. Nobody is more against banning and deleting and closing threads then me but I have to admit some of these folks are way beyond reasoning with.

In all honesty, it was one poster who came in and incited a couple more, and even then it didn't get too bad. Like doc said, if you don't like a topic, don't read it, right? I do it every day.

Re: Disappointed
Thank you for reconsidering your decision. At the beginning of your explanation of why you locked the thread, I was wary that only good comments about Omaha were allowed on these forums. It really struck me as the same attitude of the Omaha Food Lovers Facebook page that Stacy Winters oversees. I used to love going to that FB group, but their requests for any post about one’s dining experience be positive began gnawing on me. Their mantra is that if you had a negative experience at a restaurant, complain to restaurant management, and don’t post about it because it isn’t fair to the restaurant that they can’t respond to a critical review on the Food Lovers page, which I totally get and appreciate. But that page has evolved to the point where every restaurant in Omaha is considered five star. Most of the comments begin with “Run, don’t walk to such and such place” or “This place has the greatest sushi anywhere in town!” If one dares to say “Meh” about any restaurant, you’ll get disemboweled and have your intestines served at “the greatest restaurant between Chicago and Denver to serve human intestines!!!”Omaha Cowboy wrote: Tue Oct 26, 2021 4:12 pm That thread devolved to posts of silliness.. Just to clarify, that thread was not originally locked due to negative commentary about Omaha (which we do allow and will thoughtfully discuss- and always have over the years here).. The thread was locked due to silly banter which had nothing to do with Omaha, per se, even in general..
But we’ve reconsidered, reopened and moved the thread a more appropriate discussion forum.. Hopefully it won’t derail again…

Re: Disappointed
I do think what made the thread relevant was that we have a problem with this city with a bad franchisee/management company in this city that puts no effort into their stores, hiring, and product. Closing off such a thread could be construed that someone on this forum is trying to protect said company from any sort of negative attention. Not saying that was what was going on as you've stated it had nothing to do with that, but it could be perceived that way. One would then wonder if anyone involved in this site had a conflict of interest where they were trying to shield said management company from negativity. Overthinking this for sure, but it's probably for the best you've reopened it.Omaha Cowboy wrote: Wed Oct 27, 2021 1:51 amYou’re welcome..omahacacher wrote: Wed Oct 27, 2021 1:25 amThank you for reconsidering your decision. No conflict of interest at all with those of us who administer and or moderate the forum..omaha79 wrote: Wed Oct 27, 2021 3:32 pmOne would then wonder if anyone involved in this site had a conflict of interest where they were trying to shield said management company from negativity. But I still find it amusing that a fast food joint like BK (of all places) has garnered as much passion and talk as it has on our Omaha economic, development and booster site..
Go figure, you learn something new most every day around here
