Nebraska Women's Bowling
Freshman making a big difference for the Husker Bowling Team
LINCOLN, Neb. — The University of Nebraska's bowling team is fresh off a tournament win from this weekend. They won the Big Red Invitational in Lincoln. They are the third ranked bowling team nationally. FOX42's Bill Steckis reports, one freshman is making quite a difference for Nebraska. Jill Martin was the top recruit in all of bowling in the entire nation last year and she chose to come to Nebraska. As a freshman, she's not regretting anything. In fact, she's leading the team in average and total pinfall in just about every tournament this year. She wants to become a professional bowler.
She's well on her way - knocking out goal after goal including leading the husker bowling team as a freshman. "I started setting goals. I wanted to be the youngest female to make USBC's Junior Team USA and I accomplished that at age 14. A couple of years after that I decided to be the youngest to win a professional women's bowling event and I accomplished that at 17," said Martin. She could have gone to any college program in the country, but NU was her top choice.
If they win there and advance to the nationals, they will bowl for a shot at two national championships in three years.
