Omaha appoints first female fire chief in city history

Omaha appointed the first female fire chief in city history Thursday. Mayor Jean Stothert named Kathy Bossman to replace Chief Dan Olsen, whose last last day is March 24. Bossman was previously an assistant chief for the department, leading the "C" Shift & Emergency Medical Services. She said she plans to make all her decisions based off data and push for diversity, equity and inclusion within the department.

She has been with the department for more than 25 years. Bossman previously served as Assistant Chief from Nov. 2017 to Aug. 2022; Battalion Chief, 2010-2017; Fire Captain, 2004-2010; Firefighter Paramedic, 1997-2004.

Mayor Stothert appoints Omaha's first woman Fire Chief



Omaha, NE (KPTM) — Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert appointed the first female Fire Chief in the city's history on Thursday. Kathy Bossman, who is currently the Omaha Fire Departments Assistant Fire Chief, will replace Dan Olsen, who is retiring at the end of the month.
