2024 U.S. Transportation Climate Impact Index

Streetlight put out a US Transportation Climate Impact Index, discussing the climate impact of transportation in the 100 largest US metro areas and Omaha does not fair very well by their analysis. They placed us at 99th. The only city worse than us was Augusta, GA. Our best category, oddly enough, was biking activity, where we ranked almost in the top half at 52nd. Our worst was vehicle miles traveled where we were dead last at 100.

Below are the categories and overall ranking for Omaha:
VEHICLE MILES TRAVELED (VMT): 100
FUEL ECONOMY: 81
TRANSIT RIDERSHIP: 77
EV PENETRATION: 72
BIKING ACTIVITY: 52
PEDESTRIAN ACTIVITY: 72
TRUCK MILES TRAVELED: 69
VMT CHANGE: 79

What this says to me is that we really need to work more on our sprawl, transit, and making big vehicles less appealing.
