It appears that a popular theme restaurant that started in Davenport, Iowa, has its sights set on northwest Omaha. Machine Shed, LLC has purchased a 1.93-acre site at 18252 Evans Street. That’s the southwest corner of 182nd & West Maple Road and in front of a planned Fleet Farm store. The Machine Shed’s slogan is “A restaurant honoring America’s Farmers.”

Are we talking corporate farms? Organic farmers? Greenhouse farms? Most Americans probably have a “Green Acres” concept of where the food they eat comes from. Half or more of our fruits and produce comes from Mexico, Canada or other foreign countries, depending on the season. So does the bulk of our seafood. Mega corporations (Tyson, Kellogg’s, ConAgra to name a few) produce and market most of the rest.
I guess there is room in the city for another chain “theme” restaurant. I am old enough to recall when Omaha had lots of theme chain restaurants. The Drawbridge, Nelson’s Landing, Bombay Bicycle Club, Rusty Scupper, the Melting Pot, Coco’s, Boston Sea Party, the Magic Pan, the Plankhouse, Chi Chi’s and the Steamshed come to mind. Virtually all have been torn down or otherwise shuttered.

Machine Shed is a pretty good restaurant. I wish we could get a Lambert's here though ( I could use some rolls thrown at my face)

A. Is this a true “farm to table” restaurant, or is their food basically coming off a Sysco truck?

There are enough diners who don’t care where their food comes from, or whether a restaurant utilizes the freshest foods, given the season, and many chain restaurants know this. Think Applebees, for example. Though that chain seems to have largely imploded.

I think this is actually going to be a Burger Shed? It looks they have the same owners and the rendering on Loopnet has it listed as a Burger Shed for this address.

In looking through their Facebook page it looks like there are 2 existing locations: metro Des Moines (opened in 2019) and metro KC (opened in 2021). It’s essentially a gourmet burger place.

Eh, I’d say more of a comparison to Cracker Barrel would be appropriate. Down home country food…

That's too bad as everyone seems to love their regular Machine Shed restaurant in Iowa. They must not want to compete with all of the other burger joints and other restaurants that continue to pop up here. I'm honestly surprised that many of them can stay open. I can't see these Burger Detours sticking around. I haven't met a single person yet that said it was a GREAT burger... more like "meh". And if you're going to buy a $10-$15 burger meal that tastes better at Chili's or even Culver's, then why go to Burger Detour.

I kind of live out in that area and Burger Detour on Maple seems to be doing fine. They have a decent amount of customers everything I go by.

Since the concept they had planned for Maple was Burger Shed I can see why didn't go forward. There are plenty of places to get a burger in that area. Too bad they didn't try to bring their Machine Shed concept to Omaha. I think it might have done well.
