H.A.T.S. supporting healthcare in Friend



FRIEND, Neb. (KOLN) - During a visit to the Saline County community of Friend, we learned how a group of volunteers, and a local thrift store is making a big difference for the local hospital. We talked with Cindy Talley about the Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop called H.A.T.S. “H.A.T.S. stands for the Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Store,” Talley said. “We were established in July of 2012, and so we are enjoying our 12th year. The store was created because we wanted to give back to the hospital. A group of very dedicated volunteers, along with Brothers Equipment that donated the building, created the thrift store. The idea is people donate gently used items, and we sell them at modest prices. In turn, all of our profits go back to the hospital.”

“We are an entirely volunteer organization,” Talley said. “Therefore, the ladies come in and sort, they put items out. If there’s painting or cleaning to be done, we do it all volunteer.” If you’d like to visit the H.A.T.S. store, it’s open Thursday and Friday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., and the first Saturday of each month 9 a.m. to Noon.
