Midwest airlines announced today that it is going to bring back OMA-LAX service in May. One flight each day, with an early A.M. flight from Omaha and an evening flight from LAX. The local monopoly fishwrap has the story and the Midwest web site has it in their news section.
I would have thought Southwest would have picked this route up...or maybe United since it has service from Tulsa.
Anyway, good news. Should help Eppley with numbers this year.

Good news for Omaha and Eppley. Do they list which jets will service these flights? I presume they are jets.

from the owh
http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_page=1 ... id=2335986Midwest's flight will leave Omaha at 7:10 a.m. seven days a week on a Boeing 717, which seats 88, and arrive in Los Angeles at 8:30 a.m. The return flight will leave Los Angeles at 5:35 p.m., arriving in Omaha at 10:35 p.m.
"This allows the business travelers to conduct a full day's work in Los Angeles and return the same day," Smithey said.
Milwaukee-based Midwest Airlines said the Omaha-L.A. route would be part of its Signature Service, which includes two-by-two seating, extra legroom, footrests and cookies baked onboard.
On average, 557 passengers a day travel between Omaha and the Los Angeles area, according to Eppley's origin-and-destination survey. The Midwest and ExpressJet service will add a total of 376 seats per day.
"There are markets for both of those airports," Smithey said.
The new service is a step in Midwest's route expansion, the company said, which includes the addition of at least six destinations and as many as 12 routes in 2007, leading to a 20 percent capacity increase.
"Omaha is an important city in our network, and we're happy to offer the community nonstop service on a route that is sure to be very popular," said Scott R. Dickson, senior vice president and chief marketing officer.

Hopefully, if Omaha really is an "important city" for Midwest, Omaha will see additional service to other cities during 2007. I'm glad to see they are re-instituting service to LA. It's great that Omahans now have 2 LA airports to choose from.

It really is time for flights to Tampa, Orlando, Miami, BWI, Boston, Seattle, San Francisco...and on and on.
I wouldn't put a lot of stock in that "important" business...I'd assume that they are all "important". It sure looks like Midwest is putting a lot of effort into their KC hub.

I'm not putting a lot of significance into "important." I think that word was used to make us feel good. I agree regarding the need for expanded service to the cities mentioned. I hope Midwest does plan on adding some additional destinations for Omaha.

Received this in an email from Midwest
Omaha – Gateway to Nebraska Wine Country
(Omaha to/from Los Angeles sample fare: $218 roundtrip)
Nebraska vineyards number more than 200 and many offer tours and tasting rooms. The immediate Omaha metro area offers at least five winery options with at least another dozen wineries and vineyards within an easy drive of the city. Nebraska vineyards produce a number of red and white varietals that have placed well in prestigious wine festivals on both the East and West coasts. Find out more at nebraskawines.com.

Nebraska wines are so good. I've been drinking them almost exclusively as of late.

There was a time, before Prohibition, that Nebraska was the 5th largest wine producing state in the entire US..
