Nichole Aksamit, OWH wrote:Omaha couple John and Allison Querry are launching a new breakfast, lunch and dinner spot called Q Consumables at 1228 S. Sixth St., the former longtime home of Le Café de Paris.

“It will be a contemporary American bistro, with fresh from-scratch food every day and as much local product as possible,” said John Querry, who has worked in a number of Omaha restaurants (among them, the former La Trattoria, where he was chef and manager).

He said Q Consumables will have seats for about 60, a “minimal, eclectic look” and a menu that changes a bit every day.

Best of luck on this project. Omaha needs more neighborhood restaurants.

We had Sunday brunch there last week. The chef obviously knows his/her stuff, as some of the food was excellent. But there are still too many quirks about the place (no salt and pepper shakers "they haven't bought them yet"), no table sugar, no ice ("the machine broke"), to recommend it yet.

Have had the house ground burger and fries twice (once staying in and once to go). Very good both times. The patty itself is tasty so I would recommend going easy on the toppings so you don't drown out the taste of the meat.

I would also give this place a thumbs up for quality and value, but echo what nativeomahan said. I'm not going to say the service is bad, because it isn't. Let's call it "quirky minimalist", though.

If it were on the other side of the tracks there'd be a line out the door.

My wife and I had breakfast today with the in-laws, we were very pleased with the food, service and atmosphere. My father in-law and I each had the Omelet, which was full of fresh ingredients, very good. The potatoes were incredible, my wife had the fresh fruit bowl full of melon, kiwi, strawberry, and blackberry's and the French toast with berry compote, also very good. Our total bill for four with coffee, and soda was $35, well worth it for the fresh local food. We will definitely be back to try the dinner menu, we also want to try the pineapple infused tequila which is coming soon!

Well I was checking up on this place and saw that they are closed, extremely sad. How the |expletive| does a place like this close and some bull-|expletive| place like Quaker Steak and Lube stay open?

I'm not sure the restaurants are have enough similarities to come to a logical conclusion for that. QSL is no different than any of the other hundreds of thousands of places where you can get wings, beer, and watch a game - a business in which Americans seem to enjoy.

But I agree, too bad he got sick just as he started this venture.

Sorry to hear this. Such a young man in his prime. I hope he didn't work himself to death.
Meanwhile, the restaurant has really returned to its roots.... Re-becoming the Italian Gardens.
