More interesting was the fact the tour (couldn't pass it up... my son's field trip) was given personally by Mr. Gottschalk himself (aka Mr. 'Omaha Arena')... I was astonished to discover that one of the kids in my son's elementary school class is his grandson (apparently he even pressed the button to start the presses when the facility was first opened in 2001).
He seems like a nice enough guy... I actually conversed with him some on downtown development (with him recounting his discussion with Bruce Lauritzen on the importance of staying downtown), the pedestrian bridge (little sympathy it would seem for a bad cost estimate), downtown residential living (he shared that his friend (OPS superintendent) John Mackiel and his wife were moving downtown).

That's really cool, Jeff. You should have asked him why the heck he's being such a baby about calling the Qwest Center by its name
.
I stood in the long lines and took the tour when the Freedom Center first opened back in 2001(?). It's quite an impressive facility.
Now, if Omaha could only get another daily paper so it wasn't such a monopoly around here, that would be something to talk about
