That's a tough call. I can't even decide who is right or wrong in this situation, but I would almost think WOWT is the one that will need to blink. Now when it gets closer to the Super Bowl, it might be COX that will cave.

A similar situation happened back in 2006 with KETV. It was just the HD signal though. It took place over Husker football season, which is more sacred around here than the Super Bowl.

These type of disputes are getting pretty frequent. On a national level the hanging point seems to be who is going to get streaming rights to some of this. DIsh Network for example just officially launched what they are calling SlingTV and it will be a streaming only service that for the first time will allow you to buy a package to get ESPN streamed without a provider that gives you access in a traditional manor to get ESPNgo.
Most of the local spats with the parent company of the locals like WOWT seem to last about a month. They are happening with both Sat companies and with cable companies. Time Warner has been in a lot of them.

If the statistics are still correct, the biggest chunk of your monthly recurring charges pay for ESPN. The median price per channel according to the Wall Street Journal is about $.14 .
I do the middle Internet price so it is like $62/month. Where my cable bill was getting close to $130 for digital cable when I left cox. I also pay $8 for Netflix.

It's definitely ESPN. Everytime ESPN signs a new sports contract (like the college football playoff) I cringe, knowing that I'm paying more. They also have massive leverage. They use ESPN to get all of their other endeavors on the dial.

Sorry I haven't been in here for a couple of days. Yes I use Cox for internet only. Centurylink is not in my neighbor and I really haven't had a problem with Cox internet.

If you're planning on cord cutting and are in the market for an antenna, there should be a bunch showing up in the open box clearance sections here shortly.
These are pretty common. Both satellite and cable providers have to go through this. I never side with the tv channels no matter who they are battling. Obviously the larger the concession they get, the bigger my bill.
Same for the battle between CHI and Blue Cross. Whatever concessions CHI gets from BCBS will eventually be passed down to the consumers.

My wife and I get only internet through Cox. A couple years ago when we signed up, it was about $30, and now it's nearly $50. We have the basic service, but have never had any issues (including streaming Netflix). I have to assume the over 60% increase in price in less than 4 years is due to the shift in bandwidth from their cable service to internet, as more and more people are streaming video content now.
Also, if regulatory controls for net neutrality fail, I predict we'll see a lot more of these disputes, as ISPs will have a new market for speed contracts with content providers. I really hope things don't go that way, or internet content, especially streaming, will quickly become a domain only for big players who can ante up the big dollars to ISPs and pay for high-speed delivery.
The internet seems to be headed towards being classified as a utility under Title II of FCC regs. Congress wants to legislate otherwise, but I'm sure that any law passed would be vetoed. I doubt that there would be the votes to override such a veto.
