Caffeine Dreams has closed (says it has plans to reopen, maybe in the old DC's building they own on 14th?)
Wonder if UNMC has anything to do with their closure?

I've heard a rumor that the Caffeine Dreams building will become a German Beer hall, assuming the lease can be worked-out.

Drove by Caffeine Dreams last Wednesday on my way to try Noli's in Blackstone and there were no cars in the parking lot and the lights were off. Never go there, but when I would drive by the parking lot generally looked busy.

Serve Toasted Specials and you would be the most authentic Irish Pub in Nebraska. None of the existing ones do that and yet in Ireland you literally can't find a pub that serves food and doesn't serve that sandwich.

Exactly how many German restaurants are there in Omaha now? I can only think of one. I’m not a huge fan of German food (in reality most Germans eat more Turkish food, which I love), but a few more German places would be a big plus.

Very limited food menu, 10 or so items.

There will be quite a few tap handles. I think 32 is the number I was told. Will be split between German and local beers.

Huber Haus, Barchen, second Barchen soon, Gerda's. I was just hoping for a legit Irish pub near my home. Selfish reasons, I suppose.

So we have been there twice since it opened (We live nearby). Really think this place is awesome. Beer is good, food is good. Service was spotty, but those are the growing pains you expect. Interior decor is excellent by the bar, the bier hall space could use a little more character. Overall though we give it a thumbs up and I see this place doing very well.

I think someone mentioned in on of the threads that Rathskeller is closing, but apparently that's not the case, which is good to hear.

When UNMC bought the property the rumors began swirling that they would demo the building for more expansion at some point.

On Omaha food lovers page someone got a reply from the owner that they are not reopening and are trying to sell. I'll be really bummed if it doesn't come back in a similar fashion.

They closed a long time ago due to construction completely blocking them off from anyone being able to get there. They initially said it would be temporary and would be back in Spring of 24.

Construction near Saddle Creek has put a strain on some small business owners, we saw that when Weird Wild Stuff Vintage closed their doors after 28 years last month, now Dundee neighbors say they fear they've lost another neighborhood small business.

The Rathskeller Bier Haus closed their doors in October 2023, with the hope of reopening in spring of this year. A note was posted to their door and website telling customers the construction and road closure had been difficult and stressful for patrons and staff.

It was a tough blow to residents like Danny Graham, who say the restaurant is a neighborhood staple.

"Me and my wife's first date was actually there. So, for that place to be closed is kind of, it's weird driving up and down the block," said Graham.

As the spring has come and gone and fall is just around the corner. It's left many neighbors wondering if they'll ever reopen.

KMTV reached out to the Rathskeller owners and they told us:

"This has been a tough 12 months. We are trying to sell the business. Hopefully we will have some positive news soon which we will be able to share with our former patrons. THANK YOU"

Apparently there was grave concern by Preserve Omaha for the future of the building(understandably so). They made an appeal to the Nebraska Board of Regents for the preservation of this Sullivanesque style structure dating to the 1890s.

P.O. is now reporting that UNMC and the Regents have stated there are no plans to demolish it, but rather incorporate the building into their future campus! For a city with a dubious history of preservation this is great news. Even better would be if someone can re-open it as a German beer hall.
