Birds of Omaha 2018

Taken in and around the Omaha Metro Area.

As I mentioned in the Skyline thread the other day, we have a one year old and it makes getting out photographing. However if our son won't sleep some days, I will put him in the car and go for a drive and he is usually out within 5-10 min and then I have an hour or so to drive around and take photos so a lot of these are taken from my car with my son sleeping in the back seat.

My observations are: The eagles were few and far between this year, the Pelicans came early and stayed a long time. This was more Snowy Egrets that I have ever seen and the first time I have photographed them.

Its amazing how many birds live/come though here. I have lived here my whole life and I don't think I have seen an egret up close until this year. I didn't know about Pelicans until a few years ago too.

Great pics as always Brad..

On a less exotic scale- As I sit on my patio driveway on the weekends.. I see Cardinals, Blue Jays and Western Meadow Larks all the time.. Capturing these birds on camera is a very difficult proposition (for me at least)...

Cardinals, Bluejays, etc are hard because they are so small. I was photographing humming birds and oriels today. While I was very close, it was still tough without my giant lens.

While doing some digging tonight, I learned that I was not photographing Snowy Egrets, I was actually photographing Great Egrets.
