4th annual Omaha Tecmo Bowl & R.B.I. Baseball tournament.

Post by BKB76 »

Join us Saturday March 30th for a day long celebration of classic Nintendo sports games at Bigway Burger. (72nd street/Ralston)
Each tournament starts with a 3 game opening round, and those results are used to seed the bracket. The tourney format ensures everyone plays in numerous games regardless of experience or skill level. We also encourage players to partake in a warm up game before the event begins.

Tecmo Bowl starts at noon, and RBI at 6PM. $20 gets you into either tourney, or enter both for $30. Military ID gets $5 off either price. 100% of the fees collected go to payouts for the top 5 players in each tournament. The tournament is capped with the top 24 players from the opening round. Adding to the gaming experience, players eliminated in the round of 16 may continue on for additional games to place 9th through 16th. Players eliminated in the round of 8 continue on for 5th place winnings.

For reminders and updates as the tournament draws near, mark yourself as "Going" or "Interested" on the facebook event page

For a complete breakdown of the tournament format, team selection process, game play rules, and all other information go to https://www.tecmobowlnes.com/

The Tecmo Bowl tournament is single elimination. The R.B.I. Baseball tournament becomes best of 3 in the semi-final and championship rounds.
As outlined above, players can continue to compete for place after being eliminated from the tournament. In both tournaments, 3rd/4th place is determined by a single game.

The tournament uses over a dozen systems and TVs to accommodate the turnout. We have gone almost exclusively to HD gaming systems and HDTVs. Our equipment includes the Retron HD made by Hyperkin, and the AVS system made by the Retro USB company. Both offer HDMI output, 720 resolution graphics, and smooth gameplay. Additionally we have over 40 controllers on hand.

Nearly 30 attended in 2018, with players from 5 different states and many of our attendees played in both tournaments. Competitors have come from many different parts of Nebraska along with Denver, Kansas City, Des Moines, Chicago, and Toronto areas. Competitors from even more states are expected this year.

Team selection process is commonly asked about. The process begins with a pre-game coin toss.

Tecmo Bowl process:
Coin toss winner may choose their team and control player 2. The opponent then chooses their team and controls player 1.

-OR-

Coin toss winner names a match-up with 2 teams. Chicago vs San Fran for ex. The opponent has choice of picking their team from the match-up and controls player 2, or may choose to be Player 1, and defer team choice to coin toss winner.

R.B.I. Baseball process:
Coin toss winner names a match-up with 2 teams. Opponent has choice of picking their team from match up. Coin toss winner then takes other team, and may chose to bat 1st(Player 1) or last (Player 2).

No limitations will be placed on how many times you can choose a team or match-up in Tecmo Bowl.
When R.B.I. Baseball become a best of 3 series in the semi-final and Championship, you may only choose a match-up once per round. In best of 3 rounds, the coin toss winner controls the team selection process in games 1 and 3.

Inevitably we receive comments, concerns, and questions about Bo Jackson/LA being unstoppable within the context of the team selection process. If you know and understand Tecmo Bowl, Chicago is a more complete team than LA with an equally good RB(Walter Payton), San Francisco in the hand of skilled player has the top offense in the game, and New York's defense with LT and Carl Banks does a great job stopping Bo. in a nut shell Bo and LA being unbeatable is a myth perpetuated by bad or inexperienced players, when there are clearly just as good if not better options available.
