Creighton Basketball 2019-2020

Post by Omaha Cowboy »

This upcoming season could see a dramatic uptick for the Jays after the “growing pains” of last season..

CU could potentially have all 5 of their starters back for this season if Martin Krampelj returns. Epperson will return from his injury. The addition of Omaha’s own Shereef Mitchell at point guard should be a great additional piece..

This was a talented, but very young team last season. If Martin comes back, I think the Jays will be a contender in the Big East.. Even if he doesn’t, I see CU as a better team heading into the 2019-2020 season...

Creighton just landed 6'5" shooting guard, Jalen Windham, who played in the largest class in Indiana. He was originally a Georgia St commit but their coach transferred so he was released.

Today Creighton is hosting Antwann Jones, who is a transfer from Memphis. He would have to sit one, but has 3 years of eligibility remaining.

Tomorrow, they host Tristan Enaruna, who they have recruited for over 2 years. He is down to Miami, Kansas and Creighton.

Creighton is 2 for 2 this week. Antwann Jones committed to Creighton today. He will have to sit one but have 3 years of eligibility left. He was a top 100 player coming out of high school. He has great size for a guard, 6'6" 205 lbs.

Enunara ended up choosing Kansas over Creighton. Sucks to not have him, but still great to be in the running with a school like Kansas for a player.

Now Creighton has to hope and pray that Martin comes back. Or, attempt in vein to get a tall grad transfer that can contribute. Oh well.

Hope I’m wrong...

I don't think Krampelj is looking for the NBA, but as a 24 yo, looking for a spot in the European league.

Creighton picked up grad transfer Kelvin Jones 6'11", 230 lbs from Idaho St. He was one of the top transfers left. Chose Creighton over Oregon, VA Tech, and Georgia.

This was probably the biggest, figuratively and literally, pickup of this recruitment period given Krampelj's decision

I heard he was a more traditional big, he won't be seen outside the 3 point line, which is moving back next yeat.

In the video highlights I saw of him, it looked like any time he was around the rim, he dunked it. That is a good sign for the Jays. Unlike past post options like Will Artino that tried to lay it in every time.

UConn joining the conference after this season its looking like. Big East would likely go to a 20 game round robin schedule. Another marquee program coming to Omaha yearly.

I may be out in left field here, but the first year hosting the game at CHI could be fun and give a big shot in the arm to the women's budget. Not saying they sell it out, but with some marketing they could pull 8K maybe drop the curtains up top. You wouldn't get the home court advantage of DJ Sokol, but the event of it may make it worth it for the program.

Denzel Mahoney will rejoin the team and be eligible to play starting in December. This should help give even more athleticism to the team.

Huge pickup both literally and metaphorically. Skilled big men like this are very hard to come by. Incredibly important pickup here from McDermott.

That said, I hope he sticks around should the NCAA bring down sanctions.

Great addition to the team. The guards in the coming years should be good as well, so this will be great if we have a big man to add to it.

Epperson carried from practice on stretcher, catastrophic knee injury is the word. Poor kid just can't get a bit of luck.

That said, my season outlook was already low, now it's somehow even lower.

Yeah this news about Epperson really sucks. He is a great young man. He was finally starting to feel health and they were taking it easy in bringing him along. It sounds like it was a clean break, so at least he shouldn't have any lingering effects for his life. The standard time table to return would be about 16 weeks, which would late February, so I would be surprised if he makes it back this season.

I would have loved to have Krampelj here for his senior season.

By the way the Jays are getting votes in the preseason AP poll, putting them at 40th. They are also getting votes in the coaches poll and come in at 33.

I was looking at the Futures Betting at the casino and the odds for Creighton to win the National Championship are 100 to 1. If you bet $5 you win $500. Seems like the odds are too low. To win the Big East they got Creighton at 6.5 to 1 odds. The odds makers think Creighton is the 4th best team in the Big East with Villanova as the strong favorite.

Going to the Council Bluffs Casino and betting on the Creighton game and then driving across the river and watching it live downtown at the arena. Never thought I would see the day.

Big game for the Jays tonight @ 5:30 @ Michigan.

DePaul blew out Iowa last night in the Gavitt Games, (they were up by 25 with 5 min to go). Hopefully Creighton can continue the trend. The Big East is 19-0 so far this season.

Former Fab 5 member Juwan Howard is now the coach of the Michigan basketball team. I hope for Michigan's sake the hiring of a former team star as head coach goes better then it looks like it is for Nebraska football. We don't know much about the Michigan or Creighton teams yet.
My first legal bet of my life on a Creighton game!
Michigan is favored by 5 1/2 points and I am going to bet they can cover. I suspect that Michigan may be to tall for a short Creighton team to handle.

Jays played a good game, but still don't have a go to guy that can get his own bucket. Ballock started out with 11 of the first 15, but didn't score the rest of the game. Tyshon finished with 20, but couldn't hit anything in the 2nd half. (he almost had a double-double with 8 boards as well)

We don't really know how good Michigan is yet but Creighton hung with them whoever they are. No way Nebraska plays MIchigan and hangs with them like that. No way Nebraska beats Creighton this year I can see that already.

It hurts when you have no post players, and then having Mahoney, Epperson, and Mintz all out. Had they had those guys, might have been different (key word "might").

Honestly just surprised it was this close. Onwards and upwards (or at least onwards and sideways I guess).

Creighton got steamrolled by a good team, no surprise. Will probably get stomped tonight too.

That said, the 2020 Battle for Atlantis was announced:

Creighton
Duke
Memphis
Utah
Wichita St
Ohio St
Texas AM
West Virginia

That's some tourney Creighton got into.
