Wahlburgers - All HyVee Locations Closed

Before anyone gets their panties in a bunch because KC & DSM have Wahlburgers and Omaha doesn't, let me clue you in.

I went to one of their restaurants here in Detroit today. Wow. What a disappointment. Yeah, when they opened it was a big deal because MarkyMark and the Bros came to town & got their picture taken with the huddled masses. Ok, good.

The restaurants themselves certainly look like they belong in the 2010's and 2020's. Typical decor.

The food and service, on the other hand, were way less than acceptable. The people at the table next to mine waited 20 minutes and then stopped a server and asked if they minded taking their order. When their food came it wasn't close to what they wanted. Also, their burgers weren't cooked medium well as requested.

In our case it wasn't quite that bad but they still brought the wrong food.

Yeah but Bob, sometimes when a new restaurant opens there are bumps in the road, right? Yes, but this place has been opened for quite a while.

Anyway, another chain that screams "Look at us! We're cool!" but forgets that the proof is in the product.

Meh. Stick with locals.

It looks like as of Sept HyVee was opening location #4 in Brookfield Wis. This was part of the announcement about a year ago where HyVee stated they were planning to open 26 restaurants.

Paul, who just happens to be a Wahlberg is the one that started it and is a chef. Of course he's capitalized on the name, but he's still fully involved. I get what you mean, but it doesn't necessarily apply in this case.

It doesn't necessarily apply here as much as quality control and training. I'd put it more on management and, if I assume correctly, the franchisee. Still, if you put your name on the company you should take an interest in how things are going.

Hy-Vee is dropping their agreement with Wahlburgers, and by early February, the 79 HyVee/Wahlburgers will revert back to Market Grilles.

All the exterior signs were off the HyVee at 180th & Pacific today. They were still on the Big store by Gretna this morning.

At my local Hy Vee it was never good. The staff was not exclusive. So one minute there slicing cheese. The next scooping out potatoe salad, then cooking my bburger.Hy Vee has the resources to make Market Grill a really good fast casual restaurant. Just got to make good food. Which brings up another topic, how can a grocery store with every possible ingredient have such crappy Chinese food...?

I dunno about that. The Hy-Vee's in Columbus and 156th and Maple in Omaha both have pretty good Chinese...or at least that's been my experience. It's one of the few things Hy-Vee does well.

I never tried Wahlburgers. I seldom order a burger when I go out to eat as I can cook a pretty decent burger on my patio for a fraction of the cost of a burger cooked for me in a restaurant. My general rule of thumb whenever I go out to eat is “if I can (and do) easily prepare and/or cook “X” at home I won’t order it off a restaurant menu.”

Having tried a franchised Wahlburger I'd guess the only time I might like a Wahlburger is if Paul Wahlberg cooked me one in his own kitchen, or maybe not.

The clock is ticking. I wonder how much longer it is, but you still have a chance to have your first try if you have not already.

Yes both Louie M’s and Jams are still in business. Louie M’s remains popular down on Vinton St. I haven’t eaten at Jams in years.

Wonder if they're going to pull their significantly overpriced hamburger patties from the meat dept, along with their sauces, etc?

When they were running the $10 burger w/ drink and fries, it wasn't a bad deal. We just never went out of our way to get a burger from there. Personally, I would rather have a Five Guys... but their prices continue to shoot through the roof, so that's like a fancy dinner night now. LOL
