I wonder if it has to do with the area it will service. Amazon is building another fulfillment center down here where I live in Land o Lakes and it will only be 110,000 sq ft.

I think at 110,000 SQ it may be a distribution center and not a fulfillment center. This would be like the distribution center that already exists in Papillion where the Amazone vans depart from. IT is not a warehouse where items are stocked and orders are pulled and packed is my guess.

These distribution centers are pretty much all cookie cuter. This amazon building has over 2.5 million SF of floor space as it has 3 level of mezzanines, in only an 800K SF footprint. This building along with the one in Souix falls, Kansas City, KS, Wichita, OK City, Tulsa, Dallas are all the same building but with minor changes due to differing sites. The smaller 110 - 140 K sf buildings are considered their last mile facilities - These are the ones that are the spoke with all of the blue vans, and it seems like one of these large building gets built and depending on the area and existing last mile facilities in the area Amazon will build 2-3 more of these in an area as well. Which I know Omaha has 2 that will be built to add to the capacity of Omaha existing last mile facility.

It is nice to get these, but want these essentially be happening in all major markets. I don't believe these will be big regional centers. Amazon seems to be building them for local business.

Agreed. These are like the Facebook and Google data centers. Don't feel special because they're coming to your town. Their business model necessitates they come to most metro areas. Amazon has to build a facility in Omaha. The Omaha metro area and Omaha chamber didn't win or earn this. Still, glad it's coming and bringing some jobs.

I would think the majority of people of people served would still be in Omaha though, so if it was in Lincoln the Amazon vans would be driving to Omaha (in addition to in Omaha) each day.

Jeff and Trenton Mentioned on Grow Omaha last weekend that 700,000 is the building footprint, but the building is actually 3 floors so its a 2.4 million square foot building.
Also said at 2.4 Million Sq Ft, its probably one of the largest buildings in the state.
Amazed at how fast the project is proceeding. A little over a month ago it was a corn field. it now has a 4-story structure of steel already up. Amazed to see it - was shocked it was that far along.
Not an Amazon fan in general (not that I avoid shopping there), but the pace difference between a very motivated and deep-pocketed client like Amazon and the other 90% of developments that take forever to do anything is very obvious.
No time to sit around and speculate on the forum for years when they just buy some land and start throwing up superstructure.
Is this building really 3 floors? Just a quick glance driving down Highway 50, it really looks like its 4 stories. There is one section still open to the exterior and it looks like 4.

Yeah that's true. I imagine with it being essentially the same structure they throw up everywhere, plus their accelerated growth, leads to this.
