This would certainly be a nice coup if we can get it. From the Sunday W-H-

“Omaha might host a lot more excellent college volleyball in April than just the NCAA Final Four.

The CHI Health Center already has been selected as the site of the Final Four, scheduled for April 22 and 24. But now there’s chatter that all 48 teams in the tournament might play their matches in Omaha in a coronavirus “bubble.”

Nebraska volleyball coach John Cook alluded to that possibility at a press conference about 10 days ago.

“I’m still not sure it’s 100%, but I think we’re pretty close to Omaha hosting, and maybe the whole thing, I’ve heard,” he said.”..

Granted there may not be a ton of fans allowed, but even so with 48 teams here that could be close to 1,000 people. I am not sure if they all have their own rooms but that would still be a ton of rooms and money spent on food for the city.

In a bad time for hotels and travel, hosting the entire tournament, plus the news the Swim Trials are now going to be coming in 2 waves could really help the hotels downtown.

The Division I Competition Oversight Committee approved Wednesday consolidating the tournament to one location. That proposal must also be approved by the Division I Council.

If approved, the tournament would be played at the CHI Health Center arena and convention center. It would take place from April 13-24.

Yup you're right, after the uproar with the women's basketball tournament, this is just tone deaf, or stupid or both. I'd bet this is NCAA decision, not Omaha. The Creighton volleyball coach said she was never contacted about Sokol being used for a portion of the tournament.

Thank goodness. I would hate to see this lack of prep tied to MECA/Omaha/Local organizers. I just wasn't sure where local control and NCAA control rested on these things, but if it's NCAA...still it's a terrible thing, but I am glad it isn't a local screwup.

Thank goodness. I would hate to see this lack of prep tied to MECA/Omaha/Local organizers. I just wasn't sure where local control and NCAA control rested on these things, but if it's NCAA...still it's a terrible thing, but I am glad it isn't a local screwup.

My sentiment as well. This f-up should not reflect negatively on Omaha at all.. We’ve pulled off far too many high profile events here the past 15 years..that I’d like to think most would realize this is not a fault that could even partially be laid at the door step of Omaha...

I can say the same about the Big Ten. They hosted a basketball and hockey tournament...but, nope, can't host a baseball tournament due to "player safety."

Everything you are seeing now, on every level, is just about money and greed. Basketball and football make money, volleyball, women's basketball, and men's baseball generally don't. That's all there is to it.

The NCAA has always been a money grab. We saw that a few years ago during a CWS, when a windstorm came up and we alerted the NCAA about 20 min before it hit downtown. They could have orderly moved fans and staff to safety, that would have cut into their ad revenue. So, then it’s a mess and safety was sacrificed for their bucks.

I agree that is very posable. What I am not sure if is it will be any better.

My guess is it will probably be worse and could destroy mid major schools as we know it. So, no. I won't be a fan of that.

Yeah I was a little surprised, fantastic coach and good team. Hopefully Nebraska does well but after watching the Big 10 crash and burn this year in the basketball tourney, I am not assuming anything with NU and the rest of the Big 10.
