Volleyball Opens Season 18th in Preseason AVCA Poll
Creighton has been ranked once each of the last 11 seasons

The Creighton Volleyball team is ranked 18th in the AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 Preseason Poll, which was released on Monday, Aug. 15 This is the 11th straight season that Creighton has spent at least one week in the top-25, extending another program record. The Bluejays return four starters and 11 letterwinners from a team that finished last year 31-4, won an unprecedented eighth straight regular-season BIG EAST title, and finished the season ranked 22nd in the country. Over the previous 14 seasons, 255-of-350 teams (72.9 percent) have been in both the preseason and final polls. Since 2008, all but 32 teams (of 350) named in the preseason AVCA Top 25 poll would go on to reach the NCAA Tournament (90.9 percent).

Today's announcement marks the eighth time in the last 10 seasons that the Bluejays have earned a spot in the preseason poll, and is tied for the fourth-best preseason ranking in program history. Creighton was one of four schools that ended last year in the top-25 despite not being in the preseason poll along with Kansas, Illinois and Miami (Fla.). The Bluejays have now been ranked each of the last 15 polls and 92 times in program history. That figure ranks 47th-most in history. CU's all-time best ranking in program history is No. 7, which came in the poll released on Aug. 28, 2017. Creighton is 145-35 all-time when playing as a ranked team in the AVCA poll.

Creighton's BIG EAST rival, Marquette, is among those schools also receiving votes and one of six Bluejay opponents to receive votes in the poll. The Bluejays will host preseason No. 1 Nebraska on Sept. 7 and preseason No. 11 Kentucky on Sept. 2. Preseason No. 24 USC is Creighton's first home opponent on Sept. 2. CU's schedule also features matches away from home against two teams listed among those "also receiving votes", Rice (Sept. 18 in Houston) and Florida State (Sept. 9 in Omaha). After closing the exhibition season on Sunday with a 2 p.m. home match vs. South Dakota, Creighton opens its regular-season on Friday, Aug. 26 with matches in Laramie, Wyo., against Iowa State (11 a.m.) and Wichita State (6 p.m.) as part of the season-opening Rumble in the Rockies.

Sis Leads All-Conference Trio For Favored Jays As BIG EAST Announces Preseason Volleyball Awards
Norah Sis is named Preseason BIG EAST Player of the Year

The eight-time defending champion Creighton Volleyball team is a near-unanimous pick to win the BIG EAST Conference in a preseason poll of league coaches. The Bluejays own eight BIG EAST regular-season titles, seven conference tournament titles and a 139-10 overall record against league foes since the start of the 2014 campaign.

Sophomore Norah Sis was named Preseason BIG EAST Player of the Year and is joined on the 12-woman Preseason All-BIG EAST Team by Bluejay teammates Kendra Wait and Jaela Zimmerman. Sis is Creighton's first Preseason BIG EAST Player of the Year since Lydia Dimke in 2017. This year marks the 10th straight campaign that multiple Creighton players were recognized on the Preseason All-Conference team, and seventh time in the last eight years with three or more selections. This is the third straight season that Zimmerman has been a preseason All-BIG EAST choice, and the first time for both Sis and Wait.

Record Crowd Expected as #17 Volleyball Hosts #2 Nebraska on Wednesday
More than 14,000 tickets already sold for top-20 match-up

No. 17 Creighton (5-1) plays three matches in Omaha this week, but none will be at D.J. Sokol Arena. Instead, the Bluejays will play on Wednesday at CHI Health Center Omaha before making their first trek to Baxter Arena on Friday and Saturday. The action starts on Wednesday, Sept. 7 when CU hosts No. 2 Nebraska (5-0) at 5:00 p.m. in a match presented by FNBO. The match will be hosted at CHI Health Center Omaha (17,352) in Omaha, Neb. With more than 14,000 tickets already out, it's very likely the single-match record for the largest regular-season volleyball-only crowd NCAA history will fall.

Nebraska volleyball beats Creighton in front of record-breaking crowd
The total attendance was reported at 15,797 people — now the largest crowd to see a regular-season volleyball match in NCAA history.

Nebraska and Creighton volleyball were set to attract a potentially record-breaking attendance for the Wednesday afternoon matchup, and the crowd pulled through. The 5 p.m. game at CHI Health Center sold more than 14,000 tickets. The total attendance was reported at 15,797 people — now the largest crowd to see a regular-season volleyball match in NCAA history. Nebraska is ranked second in the country, while Creighton is ranked 17th. The Huskers have yet to lose a match this season, and they maintained that streak in Wednesday's matchup. Nebraska took the win in a close game, beating out Creighton 3-2. For just the second time in 19 matches, the teams battled it out over five sets. The last time Nebraska and Creighton did that was in 2018 when they also set the previous NCAA attendance record for a regular-season volleyball game.

Led by a combined 27 kills freshman Ava Martin and sophomore Norah Sis, the No. 21 Creighton Volleyball team cruised past Xavier with a 25-9, 25-17, 25-16 victory inside D.J. Sokol Arena on Wednesday, Sept. 28. With the sweep the Bluejays improved to 11-3 on the year and 3-0 in BIG EAST play, while Xavier falls to 9-4 overall and 2-1 in league play. Creighton dominated the first set with ruthless efficiency, hitting .667 and limiting Xavier to just three digs and four kills on -.087 hitting. The second set featured five ties and four lead changes. CU fell behind 13-10 and called timeout, after which it went on a 6-1 run to take the lead for good. An ace from Sis moved the Bluejay lead to 18-15 and back-to-back kills by Martin moved the margin to 21-16. Kiara Reinhardt would pound an overpass on set point to help CU take a 2-0 lead into intermission. CU hit .343 in the second set, with five kills from Martin leading the way, and served up four aces without an error.

Four kills from Martin fueled Creighton as it raced to an 8-2 start. Xavier never got within three points the rest of the evening. Martin had six kills in the set and Davis added eight digs and a pair of aces in the final frame. The Bluejays had 27 digs in the third set to limit Xavier to .023 hitting in the finale.
