Former KPS superintendent named next Neb. Commissioner of Education
LINCOLN, Neb. — A familiar face in Kearney will be the next Nebraska Commissioner of Education. The State Board of Education voted to enter into a contract with Dr. Brian Maher Friday. Dr. Maher is currently the CEO and executive director of the South Dakota Board of Regents, and was superintendent of Kearney Public Schools from 2007 to 2015. Maher is expected to begin his new position in July.

Nebraska's state board of education selects Dr. Brian Maher as next commissioner of education
LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraska's state Board of Education selected Dr. Brian Maher, Ed.D., as the next commissioner of education. Maher will replace Dr. Matthew Blomstedt, who served as commissioner for nine years. Maher, whose appointment was announced Friday, is currently the CEO and executive director of the University of South Dakota Board of Regents.
He also served as superintendent of Sioux Falls Public Schools, as well as Kearney and Centennial public schools in Nebraska. He was also an administrator at Waverly, Elkhorn and Johnson-Brock public schools. Maher is expected to start as commissioner in July.
