Former Osco Location at NW Radial & Hamilton

This may be covered on another post, but any idea what's going on at the former Osco at NW Radial and Hamilton streets? They are currently demolishing the building. Anyone know if they have something to replace it?

How do you guys like QT?

When I moved to Des Moines, and again in two weeks, they are my first choice. I think they have the BEST gas stations, employees, restrooms, selection, etc. I'm so happy that they expanded over to the west in recent years.

As a new Wichitan, I've found that QTs are every 10 blocks here. So QT must have established a presence a long time ago and decided it would be Walgreen's-like and dominate the convenience store scene. It's relatively new to Omaha, but I'm sure it's only the beginning.

I like QT, and it does blockbuster business.

QT must be a pretty good employer, too, because the same guys who trained and worked in the Saddle Creek location are still working as managers and assistant managers all over Omaha.

Right now, I found that Omaha QTs have sub-$2 gas, which is pretty darn good. I don't know if it set the trend or whether it's that way everywhere.

QT has to be taking care of their employees. It's amazing how many of the same people work at my two favorite locations (Ingersoll and Clive in DM). I'm not talking a year or two. This has been almost 8 years. I think that is probably their biggest asset...and they know this. I will almost always go out of my way to visit their stations. Now if they would build a location off of I-80 east of Council Bluffs (exit 5 or

...they would be perfect (for my visits to my moms). You can definately tell the difference between them, Kum & Go, Eddy's, and any other competition.

Has Omaha had any Short Stop Phillips 66 built there? Those are actually really nice stores as well...but still not QT.

There are QT's in Omaha. The only one I can think of specifically is in Old Millard, but I know there are more.

Also, what happened to Destination Midtown? This can't be what they had in mind.

QT always seems to have the lowest gas prices around my place. There's a couple - one around 108th & O, and also about 84th and G.

I use the one on Fort Crook a lot! Gas, a quick sandwich if I'm too lazy to cook, and thier ber prices are lower than No-Frills. The people behind the counter are always super friendly and remember me, which is cool too.

Not to belabor the QT/Wichita point, but... just to show how much QT could grow in the Omaha area:

35 QTs in metro Wichita (population's about 60,000 less than Omaha, metro area of 580,000)

9 QTs in metro Omaha.

22 in the Des Moines area, and Wichita is slightly larger than DM.

Yeah, there's some growth potential there.

And that just goes to show I'm not kidding when I say there's one every 10 blocks in Wichita.

FYI..

The metro difference between Omaha and Wichita is much larger than 60,000..

Omaha's 2004 US Census MSA (metro pop): 803,801
Wichita's 2004 US Census MSA (metro pop): 584,671

About a 220,000 difference..Which actually makes your point even more pronounced enigmo about the potential for QT growth in metro Omaha..

Omaha's population, 2004: 409,416
Wichita's, 2004: 353,823

So, 60,000 difference in city population.

I know there's a huge difference in metro population, and, yes, that still proves my point that QT has a lot of growth potential in Omaha.

Quik Trip,

I understand you will be adding another location in the Midtown Omaha area - Saddle Creek and Hamilton.

What are your plans for the design? In Midtown we would like to see the store right on the street and the pumps and parking in the rear.

Can we see your design of an "urban" type QT rather than the "suburban" type we see so far in Omaha?

4 years ago or so, QT wanted to build a new station on Ingersoll in Des Moines. They wanted the gas pumps in front of the building. The proposal went against the codes in this district to have new construction buildings adjacent to the street. QT refused to put the gas pumps behind the main building for security of their customers. They dressed up the plan to look really good, but the pumps were still in front. QT dropped the proposal. Hopefully since they have developed an "urban" strategy. I have yet to see one. I've seen locations though were there are two sets of doors on each side of the building. One side is strictly parking, the other is where the pumps are.

The thing I like best about QT is they are always buying underused property in older parts of town and building big new stores.
