Re: Big 12 Conference
I've seen lots of people |expletive| talk the new teams but honestly don't know how the Big 12 couldn't have landed it any better. Four huge media markets and BYU's a national brand. Good on them for staying afloat, I'm curious if they will go for Arizona or ASU...ASU has that midwest connection with them playing hockey in the NCHC now!

Re: Big 12 Conference
Honestly I thought when they lost Texas and Oklahoma, that meant the eventual end to the Big 12. All the new teams are recently pretty decent. If they added them ten years ago, yeah that'd be a major oof. But now there's talks of Colorado going back, the Pac 12 losing USC and UCLA, while not yet picking anybody up, and rumblings of Washington and Oregon testing other waters, looks like the Pac 12 is the one on life support.

Re: Big 12 Conference
Yeah, they added the right teams and it led to the best available TV deal. Leaped over the PAC12 and the ACC is a mess because they are locked into an awful deal that runs through 2036.
They can make a case as the top basketball conference.

Colorado to rejoin Big 12 Conference, per sources
The Buffs will end a rocky relationship with the Pac-12 after more than a decade
The University of Colorado Board of Regents will vote on a move back to the Big 12 Conference on Thursday. A transition for the school after a brief 13-year stint as a member of the Pac-12, who has recently faced a number of hardships, including a significantly reduced media rights deal. Colorado will receive a full share of $31.7 million from ESPN/Fox media deal via the Big 12, according to Brett McMurphy.

Everything that led up to Colorado moving back to the Big 12
Although an official announcement has yet to be made, it’s about as official as it gets. Colorado is leaving the Pac-12 to return to the Big 12, a conference that the Buffs had previously called home for over 60 years. Per ESPN’s Pete Thamel, the Big 12’s presidents and chancellors unanimously approved CU into the league on Wednesday evening and the next step is for Colorado’s board of regents to approve the move in a meeting on Thursday.

It will be interesting who's next. Lots of uncertainty with PAC 12, and many mentions of UCONN going to the Big 12.

Colorado approves return to Big 12: Buffaloes set to depart Pac-12 in 2024
Colorado has decided to return to the Big 12 at the start of the 2024-25 athletic season. The University of Colorado Board of Regents on Thursday unanimously adopted a resolution to move the Buffaloes out the Pac-12 and back the conference they helped found in 1996.

Maybe Nebraska can return to the Big 12? If Colorado can do it, why not Nebraska?

Re: Big 12 Conference
The Big 12 teams will get just over $31 million per year in their new deal. The Big 10 teams will get between $80 and $100 million in theirs. That alone is why Nebraska would not even consider moving.mrsticka wrote: Fri Jul 28, 2023 2:09 am Maybe Nebraska can return to the Big 12? If Colorado can do it, why not Nebraska?
The SEC and Big 10 are the two dominant players now. Teams in those conferences would not leave to go to the ACC, PAC 12 or Big 12. Or any other conference for that matter. in the SEC and Big 10 you get stability and far more money.

Re: Big 12 Conference
Colorado is leaving the Pac-12 for the Big 12, which is a step up from the Pac-12 (kinda, now that OK and TX are heading to the SEC). The Big Ten is a more competitive conference than both Pac-12 and Big 12.

That the Big Ten and SEC are more competitive than the Big 12 and Pac-12. At the end of the day, a conference is just a conference. Nothing more, nothing less.

Yeah it’s the reason you are seeing all this movement. It’s even more so because of NIL and the portal. Reaches from football all the way to schools such as Creighton and UNO (basketball and hockey schools).nebugeater wrote: Sun Jul 30, 2023 7:44 amThat is not an issue that is just Nebraskamrsticka wrote: Sat Jul 29, 2023 4:58 pmIt's sad that all they seem to care about at Nebraska these days is money.nebugeater wrote: Sat Jul 29, 2023 11:11 am$$$$$$$$$$$ is the answer. That would be a good addition. UCONN seems to be the fallback option if Big 12 can’t get another PAC 12 school.nebugeater wrote: Sun Jul 30, 2023 11:10 am Reports I see this AM say that the Arizona Wildcats are headed to the Big 12 and it will be official on Tue. We will see......
If the rest of the PAC 12 (after Arizona leaves), they should be able to add an acceptable group to stay together. San Diego State and SMU are obvious 2. I could see Colorado State and 1 other to get them back to 12 teams.

.................
...................................I don't know what to tell you. It's indisputable Check out the TV contracts for all of the conferences.
And yes, it's all and only about money. For the coaches, for the players, for the networks, for the universities. If you want people who play only "for love of the game", well there's always club leagues.

Iowa State QB Hunter Dekkers and 4 other athletes plead guilty to lesser charge in gambling case
Iowa State quarterback Hunter Dekkers is among three athletes from his school and two from Iowa who have pleaded guilty to underage gambling. The five were among more than a dozen athletes from the two schools who faced criminal charges in connection to a state investigation into illegal sports wagering. All originally were charged with tampering with records, an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by up to two years in prison.
