Dave Webber inducted into Omaha Sports Hall of Fame
The Omaha Sports Commission has announced that former 6 News WOWT sports director Dave Webber will be among this year’s inductees into the Omaha Sports Hall of Fame. At an awards ceremony set for May 30, the commission is planning to induct Webber alongside UNO football star Rod “The Krushner” Kush, Husker volleyball assistant coach and three-time All-American Kelly Hunter, legendary Elkhorn High School football coach Mark Wortman, and the undefeated 1984 Omaha Northwest baseball team.
Webber, who has been a broadcasting staple in Omaha for nearly five decades, retired from his position as 6 News WOWT sports director a few years ago but has remained involved with team coverage of high school football in the fall. He also currently hosts the station’s regular Omaha Everyday segment. He got his start in radio at KBON and KFAB before going into television in Sioux City. He then returned to Omaha, where he led coverage of Nebraska football and volleyball national championships, Creighton NCAA tournament runs, Olympic Swim Trials, the Bob Gibson All-Star Classic, and hundreds of state championships for myriad high school sports.
