Water Main Break near Aksarben Village
Center Street closed for 6 weeks due to water main break near Aksarben
Center street has been closed starting a 64th street, due to a water main break. And M.U.D says it's going to be closed for quite sometime. M.U.D says crews are repairing a 24-inch transmission water main and that the cause is under investigation, however they believe it was due to excess rainfall and flooding. Lanes will be closed on center street for several blocks for the next 6 weeks.
Another announcement to come out of this water main break, Bryan and Central High Schools had their graduation ceremonies set for Tuesday in Baxter Arena, but have been postponed until Friday, May 24. Bryan High Schools graduation ceremony is set for 2 pm and Central high schools graduation is set for 7 pm

I wonder how this will affect business at the Aksarban Farmers Market? It will certainly make it harder to get there.Coyote wrote: Wed May 22, 2024 6:59 am

Aksarben businesses fear impact of water main break and Center Street road closure
A water main break has resulted in the closure of Center Street in Aksarben Village, and some businesses are worried about the impact. The Metropolitan Utilities District currently investigating the cause of the water main break, leading to the closure between 64th and 67th streets. "They shut off our water for a little bit in the morning, but we weren't open yet. We were very, very thankful not to have any water issues in the space," Laurie Hellbusch, owner of Spirit World, said. Officials have not said how long Center Street will be closed.
"My front door faces directly in the center of 64th St and 67th and Center so what that does is no cars have the ability to roll up and park out front," JD Whitmarsh, owner of Rexius Nutrition Aksarben, said. Owners are concerned the construction might turn business away. "With the way the economy is right now, we need it more than we can say," Whitmarsh said.

'Not a problem whatsoever':
Graduations resume without a hitch at Baxter Arena following Center Street closure
Center Street is still under construction, but graduations at Baxter Arena have resumed. Tuesday's storms postponed graduation for both Bryan and Central high schools to Friday, and luckily things seemed to go off without a hitch. Despite Center Street being closed, traffic at the arena was flowing smoothly as UNO police officers managed the stream of vehicles.
"I would say do that, just take 60th to Arbor and Arbor to come in. You can park right over there and just come around," said a Bryan High School graduate's grandparents. Millard Public Schools updated those who will attend graduation on Saturday with where to park and how to get into Baxter Arena.

I forgot about the farmer's market and tried to go through Aksarben on a run Sunday. I rerouted around the periphery, it was packed to the gillsPadre wrote: Wed May 22, 2024 4:06 pm
