These first ones look really good, the level of detail is fantastic. Can't wait to see the wagon top and oxen. I know some people don't care for the wagon on everything, but this park will be a really nice asset to Omaha IMO. Enjoy.

Installation of the 1st wagon today! Hawkins construction doing all the installation. I don't know if this was known or not, but found out one of the artists does all the busts for the Football hall of fame. The level of detail in this is nothing short of amazing.

No problem tuna, I really enjoy taking photos and sharing them on here. Im most impressed with these and could capture even more of that detail if I had your camera setup.

Hopefully I can land that XT soon.

I talked with some people the day they were setting the wagon in and found out that this one is the poor family, with mules and a smaller wagon. Next will be a full covered wagon with large work horses, belgins or clydesdale type horses. This will be located east of the one set now. Another wagon with oxen will be to the west. First National has already laid out for a fourth wagon, a wagon master on horse, and a hunting party as well so there will be quite a bit to it when all said and done. The first faze they want to have done by the 29th and totally done by sometime in 07 I believe.

That's very cool that there will be a whole series. I keep thinking of the Firesign Theatre;

"Why do they do that (circle the wagons)"

Keep your eye on slickdeals.net - they've had several deals on the XT for about $650 in the last couple weeks.

I am very excited about the sculptures. I think it will make downtown Omaha more interesting and will help make DTO a destination for the locals and visitors alike. My aunt and uncle from Oklahoma City want to make it up here to see the sculptures. My aunt is a docent for the Will Rogers Cowboy Museum in OKC. She took my family and me on a tour and they had the model size of the sculptures on display(in the summer of 2003). I thought she said that the artist was from Oklahoma City. I cannot remember how it was tied to OKC.

Anyway a great addition to our city.

Those are mules. This is the poorer travelling family - I think Wags said the next installment will be the wealthy family complete with Clydesdales.

Thats what I was told was a clydesdale or belgin large workhorse. They are actually down there now sitting on the sidewalk with the base for the next (covered I was told) wagon. They are getting things ready for install no. 2.

Wagon No. 2 went in today.

Going up!

Unhooking wagon box.

Working on setting the milk cow and showing the two wagons.

I did find out today that sadly I was mistaken before, the third wagon won't be for a year or so and the fourth wagon was decided on later so it won't be here for 3-4 years, but there are still some additions to this first phaze.

There will be a woman walking with the first wagon, a woman and a man walking with the second one. Up in the grass there will be two other women and three girls walking along the second wagon. These should all be in by the end of next week.

Between this first phaze and the other two wagons will be the additions of the wagon master on horse, a hunting party with a pack animal carrying game, and two more buffalo.

The man I spoke to was Steve Broody, nice guy, his firm did the design of the park and gathered up all the talented people involved. His firms website is http://www.boodyfinearts.com. Lots of pics and other good stuff on the site.

I've been down there the last 2 nights trying to get close but there are still people working on them even at night. I didn't realize how big they were. It will be nice area to visit when coming out of the Townsend tower across the street.

As you all prolly know, phaze 1 of the wagon train monument is done.

Here are a few pics I took trying out my new camera. I jumped on the digital SLR bandwagon and picked up a Nikon D50. I've got a lot to learn with all the options now but so far I really like it.

Wow, Wags, I can tell a difference already - hate to say it but your old pics always looked like you had breathed on the lens just before you took a picture. Even though it is a Nikon ;) the new photos look great! Congrats on your new camera.

Thanks tuna, yeah I had noticed that hazy look on my old pics too, seemed like it was getting worse too. Extra motivation to get into something new. Needless to say, the Nikon lays to waste the ol Fuji, I'm pretty stoked about it. Now I just need about a month to go to Yellowstone, the Black Hills and Colorado.
