Experiences with ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, and Claude

This year is the first year that I have spent a lot of time learning the differences between these AI platforms and how it can be useful on a daily or weekly basis. As humans have different personalities, these ai platforms have different distinctive behavioral patterns. They also have specific tasks that they excel in. For example, one use of many that I have for ChatGPT is photo editing and enhancement. Grok excels in turning photos to short videos.

I have found that the more I use it, the more ways I find that it can be extremely useful such as with financial planning.

I'm creating this thread because I'm interested to see how others use these technologies in their everyday lives, albeit with work or outside of work. I would also been interested to see some interesting replies received from AI. For example, I told ChatGPT and Grok that there was one platform that "I didn't get along with" because I felt that I was always undergoing HR compliance training. Both platforms guessed the correct answer, which I thought was impressive.

I have used ChatGPT in two ways. First is for checking proof reading/editing things I have written to make them sound a little better. Second is that I used it to diagnose some computer issues. Literally had a chat with it and it was amazing how it walked me through it.

I also use Adobe's Generative AI features inside Photoshop when editing architectural photos for clients. It does a nice job like removing odd reflections or random things clients don't want to see in an architectural photo. But I don't use it for any of my fine art stuff I'm shooting for myself (Landscapes, Cityscapes, etc.).

I enjoy playing with AI, which I have to be somewhat guarded about because on social media hating on AI has become a trendy hobby. It seems you can't discuss it at all without someone chiming in and going off about water, data centers, intellectual property, etc.. Personally, I find all that more than a little eye-rolling. It's amusing when someone makes a TikTok ranting about AI Data Centers. Just where do they think the TikTok video (or Reddit comment, or Facebook comment, or Instagram post, or...) they just made is being stored? lol

It's great for simple graphics work. Like, taking last year's fundraiser flyer and asking AI to change the dates on it. My mom had a photo of some friends and her, but there was a TV in the background and the lady on TV looked like she was part of the photo, so my mom sent it out to all her kids and asked if any of us could remove the TV, I sent it to Chat GPT and said "remove the TV from this photo" and 90 seconds later I was sending it back to my mom and it looked perfect. You can get it to generate some pretty decent stuff if you prompt it well. If you simply say "Make me a flyer for a garage sale" you're going to get a very AI-looking flyer. AI prompts need detail to produce something that really shines. Heck, ask AI how to get results that look less AI and it will coach you.

I use it a lot as a search engine on steroids. If I am researching a product I know very little about I will have AI scour the web and product reviews, ignoring the 5-star fluff and the 1-star rants, and tell me what's good.

It's good for trips too. Like, "We're driving from Omaha to San Antonio. We don't want it to take more than 2 days to get there. Find cool stuff along the way for us to stop and see or do. Put together an itinerary that includes some roadside attractions, meal stops at unique restaurants, and an overnight stay in a town with fun stuff to do in the evening."

My new favorite thing is using it to tell me what to stream. For example, "I want to watch The Walking Dead, but I don't have time to watch 177 42-minute episodes. Give me a curated list of the must watch episodes that cover all the major plot points, key character introductions, character exits, scenes that became memes, or are most often discussed. Include the pilot episode and series finale. Distill the show into 25 or so episodes."

When using AI, I tend to mostly use Chat GPT out of habit. I've used Claude for some legal stuff and coding. I don't use Gemini much, but Gemini sort of kicks in anyway any time you do a Google search.

I prefer ChatGPT for research and simple things like that.

But I use Claude Code extensively at work and have used it to build complex Python processes that extract from multiple sources, clean/filter/combine that data, and then load into another application. To do that manually, then test properly, and then document everything would take weeks. With Claude, in which I also created a testing skill and a skill to gather requirements and then document all changes, it took less than a week.

I also use Genie, which is the AI tool inside Databricks, and that is a very robust tool as well. Can also talk with Claude Code both ways to assist in building pipelines.
