Modern Health Care wrote:The American Health Care Association says Hal Daub has stepped down as president and CEO of the long-term-care trade association and has been replaced on an acting basis by its legislative counsel, Bruce Yarwood.
And maybe he is flying under the radar for some future political possibilities? No mention of his new found free time.
That would be a good asset to Eric (Zephyr) - someone on that light rail board in the RNC could really score some funding in the future if card fall in our favor.
OMAHA, Neb. -- Omaha's most recent former mayor will make his political future known on Tuesday.
Hal Daub plans to hold a news conference on Tuesday morning in Benson to announce his political plans regarding the 2008 election.
Daub said he will have no comment before that news conference.
In the wake of a statement earlier this spring from Sen. Chuck Hagel that he was keeping open his option of running for president in 2008, Daub said in a news release that he was "strongly considering" a bid for the United States Senate.
Daub served as a member of the House of Representatives from 1981 to 1989.
Daub conceded defeat in the mayor's race in May 2001 to current Mayor Mike Fahey.
Later that year, Daub became a partner in the Blackwell, Sanders, Peper, Martin law firm with a focus in governmental affairs.
President George W. Bush nominated Daub to be the chairman of a Social Security advisory board.
In 2003, Daub joined the Metropolitan Entertainment and Convention Authority, which oversees the Qwest Center and Civic Auditorium.

Hal Daub is a whirling dervish of energy. No doubt he has a lot of talent. He also drives people absolutely bonkers. I hope he doesn't run for anything in Nebraska as long as I continue to live here.
Lincoln Journal Star wrote:In a prelude to a possible Senate bid, Hal Daub resigned Monday as the Nebraska Republican Party’s national committeeman. In letters and e-mails, Daub told party leaders he’ll make a decision soon on whether to enter the Senate race.
Washington Post wrote:Former senator Bob Kerrey (D-Neb.) seems to be creeping ever closer to a Senate race in 2008, telling the board of trustees at the New School -- where he serves as president -- that a candidacy is a possibility.
Kerrey seems convinced that Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.) has decided against running for a third term in 2008, creating an open seat and a golden opportunity for the Democrat's return to Washington. Kerrey has spoken with Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (Nev.) about the possibility and would probably have the right of first refusal among Democrats; "I was flattered that Senator Reid wants me to run," Kerrey said of those conversations. Omaha Mayor Mike Fahey is also interested but would almost certainly defer if the former senator wanted back in.
Columbus Telegram wrote:As Kerrey peers into the public battleground he left six years ago and ponders whether he wants to try to go back, the underground political world is stirring both here and in Washington. In Kerrey's view, the right of first refusal this year belongs to Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel, his former Senate colleague, fellow Vietnam veteran and friend.
Would Kerrey be willing to talk now about what motivates or attracts him to consider a return to the Senate? “Not until I have made a decision,” he replied by e-mail Friday.
In revealing last week that he had told trustees at New School University in New York City he might be leaving as its president, Kerrey briefly alluded to motivation. As he decides whether to return to Nebraska and seek the Senate seat, he said during a telephone interview, he'll be balancing personal happiness with the opportunity to “try to do something good for my country.” The New York Post says Kerrey is “leaning toward” entering the race.
Hmm...I suspect that if Daub got elected, Omaha would "magically" receive (via earmarks) millions of dollars for some sort of light rail system.
Lincoln Journal Star wrote:Meanwhile, former Congressman Hal Daub, 66, resigned his position as Republican national committeeman for Nebraska last week but said the move shouldn't be interpreted as a sign that a run for Senate is imminent. He's spent the past four months holding "listening and learning" sessions in all 93 Nebraska counties.
As the rumors reach a peak, some political insiders suspect Hagel's plans have been leaked - or that Hagel told Kerrey and others he isn't going to run, and that's why they're positioning. "Senator Hagel has told me nothing of the kind," said the 64-year-old Kerrey, who said he hopes Hagel runs for another term. "I get my information through rumors like everyone else." "All I did ... was inform my employers that in the event Chuck says no, that I might say yes," Kerrey said.
Has Kerry even visited Nebraska in 8 years? He thinks he can move straight from New York back to DC. I will vote for Daub or a Democrat that actually lives in Nebraska. If it is Brunning vs. Kerry I will stay home.

Well he CAN'T run in New York, they elect people form Arkansas!

Heck... By the time he retires we will a dozen ped bridges, a couple of qwest centers, the OWH site, Pinnacle Site, state building site will all have high rises, the park ave area will have about 2 dozen 30+ story luxery condo towers. Will have North, South, East, West, Midtown, and downtown ballparks, light rail and streetcars.
Actually Kerrey is the one that got us the fed dollars for the ped bridge but yeah, I'm sure Hal will be seeking out the $$$ for us too. If it comes down to those two I'll have to coin toss, best of 5.

I know Kerry got the ped bridge, but Daub is crazy about Omaha... He will get us a dozen ped-bridges.
