Doozy's sandwich shop to open on 16th street

Dooz'ys is opening a store in the Regis building at 16th and Harney. I don't know much about them other then they have several stores in Lincoln. They want to be open in a month or so. The will be right next to the Food Mart.

Also, probably not the best thing to go in on 16th street but a tattoo parlar/skateboard shop is opening, also in the Regis building.

I'm glad to see new retail on 16th street but I don't know that we need another sandwich shop or a tattoo place

There is a Doozy's in Columbus too. Very good toasted sandwiches. Similar to Quiznos....but better in my opinion.

I've been to Doozy's in downtown Lincoln before... they're very tasty and hella cool.

Yeah, whazzup wid'dat? They could at least open up shop a little further north, so most downtown workers don't have to walk so far over lunch hour to grab a quick 'too.

Doozy's!!!! Yeah!!!!

They are the best sandwich shop. Much better than Quizno's or Schlotsky's with their warm sandwiches baked in foil. I'd compare them more to Planet Sub at 170th & Center, but Doozy's is better and locally (Lincoln) owned.

They also have pizza in Lincoln, but the subs are awesome!

Glad to see someone try again on 16th. I was sitting in on the 16th Street committee ( part of Downtown Omaha Inc.) meetings for a couple of years, but I have not been attending recently. Can anyone bring me up to date on what that group has been or has not been doing?

A Main Street program just accenting 16th St. between Dodge and Howard has been one of my goals. Anyone have advice for me on helping make that happen?

Vince, the last time I talked with Roger, about a month or so ago, it seemed the 16th Street Committee was not doing much. I think their biggest issue at that time was the apartment-to-condo craze for buildings like 1600 Farnam.

I second having a Main Street program for 16th Street. Let me know if you'd like a copy of my report I did a couple years back on revitalizing the street, that may give you some ideas. And perhaps you could couple with Omaha by Design and hold a charette and/or place game to spark some interest. 16th Street is definitely an important corridor in the center of downtown and it would be great for it to regain its prominence!

Early this year the 16th street committee convinced the Omaha Police Department to extend the mounted patrol to the 16th street cooridor.

I attended a couple of the meetings ealrier this year but stopped because it seemed to me that they(roger in particular) were not doing anything positive. At the time I was there, they were upset and talking about filing a lawsuit over First National Tower's attempts to get rid of the birds. Next thing I heard from them was they(again roger in particular) were upset about the 1600 farnam conversion and were filing a ridiculous lawsuit(I call it ridiculous because it had absolutely no legal basis).

I'm relatively new to DOI, so I don't know if it's just a recent thing, but it seemed to me that the 16th street committee was little more than Roger's personal means of adding a little credibility and clout to his personal agenda. The mounted police thing was done because Roger was upset about "skateboarders and panhandlers".

Rather than a proactive approach to clean up and improve area, the approach seemed to be reacting to whatever Roger doesn't like with lawsuits or threats of them. Somebody from the committee please tell me I'm wrong, because the area has so much promise and potential, but filing lawsuits isn't going to improve things long term.

Hmmmm...perhaps Roger should join up with that woman who wanted to institute a curfew downtown. They sound like a perfect match.
