U.S. Snipe Masters Championship

Post by icejammer »

Might be a good chance, weather permitting, for some forumers to get some good photos of this event this week. I'd love to participate, but I'm not old enough  :

National championship to set sail at Lake Manawa
Some talented people from around the country have set sail for Council Bluffs to participate in a race this week.

It's no ordinary event, either. They are coming to compete Thursday through Saturday in the U.S. Snipe Masters Championship at Lake Manawa.

A snipe is a two-person sailboat that's about 16 feet long. It features a large main sail that's manned by a skipper, while the other person, known as the crew, mans a smaller sail. The Iowa Nebraska Sailing Association is sponsoring the event.

At frist I thought this was going to be a competion for snipers....as in the people who hide in remote locations and shoot unsuspecting victims.

That is what I thought also. Lets get a bunch of West O kids and go snipe hunting along the river. Now that would be a great photo shoot!

Why Yes I am Big E. But there were never any snipes out there when I was growing up. Every one knows they tended to be around the black squirrels which we also didn't have.

I thought the squirrels ran off all the snipes because the snipes wouldn't leave the squirrels' nuts alone... :)

Oh man... this could go one for DAYS!!!

Great get!

I'm not a sailor---the 2 times I went sailing with some of my 'sailor' friends on the Chesapeake Bay, I was practically mainlining Dramamine (one of my Woody Allen moments), but a body of water filled with sailboats is a great sight, from the shore anyway---and a great photo op.
