I noticed the sign is up at Heidelberg's. Has anybody heard an open date?

I heard they were looking at a Fort Street Location.Heidelberg's Sports Bar & Restaurant, opened near 168th Street and West Maple Road in February 2007, closed Tuesday.
Co-owner Holly McManus attributed the closure to limited street access and insufficient parking. “We were at odds with the landlord and the developer over those things,” she said.
McManus said it's possible that Heidelberg's might reopen somewhere else in Omaha. The original Heidelberg's in north Lincoln and a second location in south Lincoln remain open.

I wonder if the smoking ban hurt them. They developed a reputation as a smoke-pit, scaring away non-smokers. (At least the one's I've talked to...)

If you were heading south off of Maple, you couldnt turn left into the Heidleberg area so you either had to go into target and come out at Bedford or go up to Bedford drive into the neighborhood and turn around to get back to 168th and then head north.attributed the closure to limited street access
I don't know if they thought that they would get a turning lane when they built but it didn't happen.

I don't know about the 'smoke pit' thing, but damn they played their music far too loud. I can't eat in a restaurant where I have to scream at the person sitting next to me. That's why I only ate at the place once.

I can say that smoking ban cost them our business. It was brutal there once they were the only place in the area that could be smoked at. When Omaha enacted it but Heidelberg's allowed smoking because it was outside the city limits, we quit going there. Once the ban when statewide, we were already out of the habit of going there and just kept going to Tanner's down the street...

Sounds like they don't want to pay now.

Closed Sports Bar Owes Back Wages
Story 0 Comments Font Size: Waitress Sarah Humbert never got a tip that Heidelberg’s Sports Bar and Grill would be closing and she’d lose her job.
Sarah says, “Quite a shock. A sheriff comes in, hands over eviction papers. What are we to do?”
Sarah and cook Kayla Dawson are not only concerned about losing jobs but getting paid for hours already worked by Heidelberg’s owners. Dawson says, “I helped them move everything to Lincoln and they said I’d get paid and no paycheck.”
A business manager for Heidelberg’s said no comment and hung-up in a call by Six On Your Side.
The workers are filing a complaint with Nebraska Department of Labor which offers on line complaint forms to speed up an investigation. Bill Hetzler with Nebraska Workforce says, “Its rough times for everybody and we’re going to do our darnedest to collect those back wages.”
Nebraska Workforce Development has about an 85 percent collection rate on back wages. In the past 16 years collecting $7.5 million in pay owed to Nebraska workers.
An attorney for the landlord of the northwest Omaha building says Heidelberg’s owed more than six months back rent amounting to six figures. Attorney Clay Rogers says the landlord bent over backwards to help the bar owners keep going but efforts to reach a reasonable rent agreement failed.

Been there, done that! When the place that I worked at closed, we never got paid for the last month we worked. And we can be counted in the 15% Nebraska Workforce was not able to collect.
Always a business-oriented city hungry for growth and focused on development with laser intensity, Omaha aimed high, reached for momentum and found critical mass.
