Elmwood: Scotty G's Bakery Deli

Deli bakery offers Elmwood a different taste
Omaha World Herald wrote:In the small town where famous Nebraska author Bess Streeter Aldrich lived, there's a new attraction inspired by Italian tastes to lure visitors. The first restaurant to open in this Cass County town of 660 in nearly a decade bears no resemblance to a typical small-town Nebraska cafe.

Hamburgers, hot dogs and french fries are not on the menu at Scotty G's Bakery Deli. Instead, the menu board includes unusual choices for locals and hungry patrons passing through Elmwood. There's beef pesto panini, firecracker turkey with sliced radishes and spicy turkey with focaccia bread.

Visitors to the museum home of Bess Streeter Aldrich in Elmwood now have a place to get an afternoon meal and socialize. "Since we opened up, about 50 percent of our business has come from out of town," Garrett said. "I want to be a place that's nice to come into, something a little more upscale but still fits within the community."
