Five local museums will hold activities Saturday for the public and local Cub Scouts.
The public is invited to visit the Historic General Dodge House, Union Pacific Railroad Museum, RailsWest Railroad Museum, Western Historic Trails center and Kanesville Tabernacle from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. . . .
At the Dodge House, 605 Third St., visitors can observe A Day with the Dodges as costumed volunteers depict members of the Dodge family going through their daily routine and interacting with servants and friends. There will be outdoor games for children, and the Dodges will receive guests inside while servants clean and bake. Re-enactors from Wild West Creations will entertain and educate with their depictions of Civil War soldiers and cowboys. . . .
. . .The Omaha N-Trak Model Train Club will have its model train display set up at the Union Pacific Railroad Museum, 200 Pearl St. Visitors may also see Buffalo Bill Cody or a railway special agent from the turn of the 20th century. . .
At the RailsWest Railroad Museum, South Main Street and 16th Avenue, the 10th Iowa Regiment Civil War re-enactors will set up camp, tell stories and whittle away the time. Special tours will be offered of the 1899 Rock Island Depot and rail yard featuring the mail service car. In addition, the museum's large HO model railroad layout will be operated by the Greater Omaha Society of Model Engineers. . . .
Mountain man storyteller Stew Lynn will speak at the Western Historic Trails Center, 3434 Richard Downing Ave., and the film "And There We Wandered, Sometimes West" will be shown in the museum's theater all day. . . .
Kanesville Tabernacle, 222 E. Broadway, is an authentic replica built in 1996 near the site of the original tabernacle constructed in 1847 by 200 men in less than three weeks. See the problems associated with building a structure with green cottonwood logs, observe a fireplace built with prairie sod and learn about early pioneer life. . . .
