Would this be Houston Alexander in Omaha? Where will it be?

After the controversial night with Kimbo Slice and the 'thumb in the eye' the match before MMA took a hit.

Has the Omaha area ever had an major MMA match? The last major fighting event that I remember was Frazier - Ron Stander match at the Civic in '72?

major fighting event?

In 1972 Ron Stannard fought Joe Frazier for the heavyweight title at the Civic.

Word from a local promoter is that its going to be at the Civic...

Seriously - the Civic?

THE CIVIC?!

Hopefully the Omaha City Council kills this so it can be in Iowa where real fighting events belong.

If this is true, it must be a very small UFC promotion, not a PPV. BTW my early predictions, Shafer by submission over Houston if he's smart. Diaz vs Neer, Neer if it stays on the feet, but if it goes to the ground its all over, Diaz by triangle choke.

UFC FIGHT NIGHT 14: SEPTEMBER 17
venue: TBA

-Houston Alexander vs. Eric Schafer
-Tamden McCrory vs. Luke Cummo
-Josh Neer vs. Nate Diaz

Its a fight night on a wednesday

Diaz's brother was the one that beat him originally - not sure if his little brother can pull off the same...

#1 Gambling

#2 Time to go drinking after the fights

#3 MAC is WAY better than the civic...Wasn't the Civic site considered for demolition to make way for the stadium - it must be held in such high esteem.

#4 Omaha is where you go for concerts and steak - not for men trying to kill each other for my amusement. Omaha is too high class for MMA.

If more time for drinking afterwards is your criteria, shouldn't Iowa be better for ANY event?
Anonymous wrote:#3 MAC is WAY better than the civic...Wasn't the Civic site considered for demolition to make way for the stadium - it must be held in such high esteem.
Perfectly legit reason for having the fights at the MAC.

Ah yes, Omaha's too high class for people killing each other for amusement. Remind me again, which City has a senseless shooting about every other night?

Pretty easy to hide behind a GUEST name, isn't it?

I think putting this type of event at the MAC is the right thing to do, it's the best fit for location in almost any sense that I can think of..

I think the MAC is the only way to go. UFC fight nights generate alot of money (beer sales) and I would doubt they would be too anxious to return to the civic. I'm definitely getting tickets regardless of the venue though!

Let me get this straight - you are telling an anonymous poster to not hide behind a name while having the name "IceJammer"

like that name is any more specific?

Got it!

Why not just have it at the Qwest?

Most of the regular posters on here know most of the other regular posters. No one is saying differing opinions aren't welcome (obviously), we're just saying flame bait without accountability is not exactly encouraged.

Just don't be surprised if your IP gets blocked at some point.

Because it would sell better at the MAC, I mean there is a hooters, a large casino, and the Oil and Lube theme resteraunt right there, there is no better location for this type of attraction...

We all have out reasons why we post as a guest from time to time, so no one one needs to talk about who is hiding where.

Matt Perrault is talking about the UFC coming to the CIVIC on the mighty big sports 590

Sources: UFC considering Omaha for September event

http://mmajunkie.com/news/4491/sources- ... -event.mma
www.mmajunkie.com wrote:The Ultimate Fighting Championship might make its first-ever trip to Nebraska.

Multiple sources close to the event, including fighters tentatively booked for the show and officials close to the venue, tell MMAjunkie.com (http://www.mmajunkie.com) that the UFC has begun preparations to host the Sept. 17's UFC Fight Night 14 event at the Omaha Civic Auditorium in Omaha.

Image

The event precedes the debut episode of "The Ultimate Fighter: Team Nogueira vs. Team Mir" and airs live on Spike TV

The UFC doesn't comment on potential destinations, and representatives from the Nebraska Athletic Commission weren't immediately available for comment.

Depending on the seating arrangement, the Omaha Civic Auditorium could accommodate approximately 11,000 spectators. The venue currently hosts the Omaha Beef indoor football team and the Creighton women's basketball and volleyball teams.

Another possible venue in the city is the Qwest Center Omaha, though its near-19,000 capacity is perhaps too big for a "Fight Night" event.

As we first reported last month, UFC Fight Night 14 was scheduled without an immediate host venue in mind. Florida had been discussed as a possible destination. However, with Omaha a possibility, the UFC could live up to its recent promises that the organization would visit more Midwest cities, specifically for "Fight Night" events, over the next year.

Current Nebraska-area fighters rumored for the UFC Fight Night 14 card include Omaha resident Houston Alexander and Iowa-based fighter Josh Neer.

For the latest UFC Fight Night 14 news and rumors, stay tuned to the MMA Rumors section of MMAjunkie.com.

Depending on ticket prices, I'm most likely there. Hopefully the card fills out a bit more with a more marquee name fighting.

While the MAC is no doubt a great location, I fail to see why the MAC is the best location for this type of attraction and not all other types of shows/events/etc.....(unless you're talking something like a Yanni concert)

Icejammer, I don't disagree with 'all other types of shows/events/etc' because the MAC 'is' a good place to have some very good concerts and shows..

What I was referring to was the amenities nearby the MAC make it more suitable for 'this type of event' than the Qwest or Civic, I am not downplaying the MAC at all as I think it is a terrific facility.. I'm just saying that if I was to pick a location for a WWE, UCF, boxing, nascar type of convention it would be there and would probably give MAC an edge due to its surroundings...

With that said, if I was a traveling band I would give the MAC a serious look.. I'm just saying that the MAC has the 'it' for this type of event..

The MAC has the VFC which is a pretty big MMA name event in the area...it would make sense to have the UFC in the same venue.

It is just newer and a better representation of the area. Ideally it will be at the Qwest....I think there is enough demand to make it happen. The biggest name in MMA having an event at the Qwest - just gives me goosebumps thinking about it.

However - there has to be a reason no major fighting event has happened in Omaha in 3 decades....

When I think of portraying Omaha to the rest of the country - the last venue that comes to mind is the frikkin Civic.

This is going to give Omaha great pub! national T.V. right in the heart of downtown, ( I'm sure they will show a few sky-line shots.) and I hometown fighter on the card. Why would any Omaha supporter want this at the MAC?
