VERY interesting.
That's really pathetic that a city has one call for every 500 households in 30 days... I guess our crime rate is a WHOLE LOT more extreme than we thought.. I guess we can't tell people that we have a decent crime rate, as a matter of fact it is one of the worst in the entire nation...
Is there something which has you stuck in this city Erik? Because pretty much all I've heard from you lately is about how crappy you think everything is... and I personally can't imagine sticking around some where which left me so discontented.

Very good information, by the way... and it certainly doesn't suggest Omaha is an unusually crime ridden city... it simply illustrates what we should have already known... crime is happening everywhere. Feel free to examine some of the other cities which are sharing information on crimereports.com. The story is the same.

Yeah, but you know... whether you talk about crime at the rate of 10's per 100,000... vs even the 100's per 100,000 (which is where Omaha sits in most categories, from one end of the city to the other)... you're still talking about a less than 1% chance of being involved in a criminal act.
People need to be a little less paranoid... it's not Beirut 'down there'. Look at the victims of violent crime specifically. The vast majority you'll find are either involved in gangs or drugs... or are related to someone who is. Another significant portion of these crimes are domestic disputes (my understanding, what accounts for the majority of police calls).
So, be smart, stay out of gangs and don't do drugs folks... oh and, perhaps stay out of abusive relationships.

I have seen MULTIPLE cases of people killed or injured as bystanders because of drive by shootings in North Omaha every year. I have seen NONE anywhere near me. I agree that the odds are still low, but, as a parent, I think you understand that you do what you can to reduce risk that can be reduced (i.e. move to a part of town with essentially zero innocent causalities due to violence).
Crimes by zip code in the last 30 days(NOTE: the map centers on a zip code, so the numbers include that given zip code and some areas immediately surrounding it).

Your writing off a lot of good neighborhoods east of I 680. The crime does not go up very much until you go east of 50th street.
