Is that just a generic name I'm mistaking for someone else? or has NativeNebraskan been around here for a while?

Did we ever consider that he's just an idiot? or perhaps the wink gave him away... on the other hand, perhaps he was winking acknowledging how sick it was.

At any rate, I don't think we had to censor the link... I think people need to be aware of this trash.

EDIT: I guess I was thinking of our regular... nativeomahan.

His IP address suggested he was from Arkansas.
I did not want his url getting 'Free Press' from this site - however -
if you add 'Midwest' you can see for yourself why it was banned.

What a shocker... Arkansas, huh.

Yeah, I saw what the site was all about. Perhaps someone should submit this to Justnik's splcenter... maybe we have a new group in town.

It's pathetic you can't even feel comfortable going into a retail store to shop - or a bank, grocery store, etc.

It's just extremely sad - all I can say is that |expletive| got what the deserved. This could have been much, much worse.

Could of been a really ugly situation, just a week after the announcement of Omaha's newest skyscraper starting construction. Probably some nut case.

Makes no sense why someone “needs” that gun for hunting or self defense, imo. However everyone that believes otherwise immediately jumps to it being a second amendment issue, etc, etc.

I’ve decided if it’s simply a right to have one then I’d like to acquire a rocket launcher, a tank and some machine guns… because it’s only fair and why should anyone get to decide where the line is drawn?

HA!

I hate to use the term "funny" anytime I'm talking about a gun - however, it's quite ironic there are several who want people to stop using the term "assault rifle" with these weapons. I thought that was the actual intent of the "AR" in AR-15... Assault Rifle?

Am I mistaken?

I haven’t heard any reports of a suicide letter or social media postings that would shed light on this man’s motive. Clearly he had extreme anti social personality and probably a death wish, as these things never end well for the victimizer. I don’t envisage a political motive.

AH! No wonder so many ppl are angry when people refer to them as an "assault rifle".

I guess having a magazine that holds 10+ rounds and the ability to pop those in and out of the non-assault rifle in a hurry is a much needed feature when hunting bobcats in Nebraska.

Multiple active shooter reports throughout the state determined to be prank calls

Learning was brought to a halt at schools across the state this morning as law enforcement received several calls about active shooters. “We have text messages being sent to parents, ‘I’m afraid’," said Colonel John Bolduc, superintendent of law enforcement and public safety for the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP). "We have students and teachers barricading doors and locking doors." Omaha Police say they received a call just before 9 a.m. about an active shooter at Omaha South High School. Authorities say the school went under immediate lockdown as local agencies arrived at the campus.

After searching the school and finding no evidence of any gun fire, or victims, authorities determined that the report was a prank call. There were no victims at the other schools which reported an active shooter as well. These prank calls are what law enforcement call swatting. The term means to make a prank call to law enforcement in hopes of getting a large response from them. NSP say ten schools total across the state were victim to swatting Thursday morning.

I was astonished when I came across this headline. Has Omaha really only had one homicide in 2023? Really remarkable news if so.

Holy cow, looks like the first homicide of the year was april 18. That is astonishing. I still remember the summer month (maybe 15-20 years ago) when we had a murder a day.

Unfortunately that total is up to 4 homicides now.. But still, that is WAY low. Normally by mid June- Omaha is pushing 15-20 homicides. This could be a record low year. But we still have a “long hot Summer” to go…

Even 4 is crazy low for a city this size. Kansas City and Minneapolis are both considerably more dangerous than Omaha. Even Albuquerque which has similar population stats as Omaha consistently has more Homicides than us.

Also include Tulsa, OK.
Tulsa is considered to be Omaha's twin, based on population size and as old as Omaha.

However, from the numerous times I have been to Tulsa.
Locals tell me that the crime is high, young people I have talked to say they feel hopeless in Oklahoma, especially because the police somehow try to find ways to arrest people. Tulsa has even been having this program paying $10,000 for any remote worker that moves there.

Although Tulsas growth rate is good, the growth rate is nowhere near as Omaha.

Not surprised that Tulsa isn't growing as fast. It's a city with overbuilt highways and in love with car dependency, Tulsa is a smaller version of Kansas City. The downtown is dead and hardly walkable

It’s nice to know we are doing something right, and that our comparatively low numbers are not just the result of good luck. Although that probably also comes into play.
