15,000 Walkers Take Over Omaha During Race for the Cure
OMAHA (KPTM)- Survivors say it is making strides each year. Omaha's Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure had more than 15,000 participants Sunday morning.
For many of those walking or running, increasing awareness about breast cancer is intensely personal.
"My mother died of it at 50. My sister was diagnosed at age 50, and I was diagnosed at age 50. The first thing I thought of was death," says Marilyn Underwood.
Her longtime doctor, Robin Clemmer, is her walking partner Sunday. Dr. Clemmer is remarkably a breast cancer survivor herself. "You get a little, tiny bit more hopeful as each month goes on," says Clemmer.
More than 400 teams registered for this year's event, which featured a walk or 5K race.

My wife and many of her coworkers did it, and she said that 15,000 may be a somewhat conservative number.
