Hi everyone in Omaha!

I'm a casting producer for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. We are currently looking for inspirational families from Omaha and surrounding cities. If there's anyone who could help us get one step closer to finding a family to help in your hometown, it'd be you the people of Omaha!

Hopefully you've seen our show, but we are looking for families of good people that have suffered a tragedy or misfortune or that always give back to their community and deserve an Extreme Makeover to their home. If there are any families you would like to nominate who would benefit from our show, please let me know. I've attached the press release, and I would greatly appreciate your help in spreading the word of our search for families in Omaha and surrounding cities. Our deadline for nominations is February 17, 2010. I've also included our flyer specifically for Nebraska. If you know of any families, please email me at [email protected] and [email protected]. ABC’s EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION SEARCHING FOR DESERVING FAMILIES

HOLLYWOOD, CA – February 1, 2010

Do you know a family whose home deserves an Extreme Makeover? If so, the producers of ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition want to hear from you.

Ty Pennington and his crew have been all across the map and now they want to drive that famous bus to Nebraska!

“We are looking for the deserving people and inspiring families that America can really root for,” says Casting Supervisor Rebecca Shumsky.

What does it take to be picked for an Extreme Makeover? "We're looking for those special people who have amazing strength of character and never give up. Whether it’s keeping their chin up in really tough circumstances or going out of their way to help others. We want to help people whose stories have really affected their community or made a big difference in other people's lives.” Shumsky added: "There are a lot of people who are heroes to those around them because of the way they inspire others and quietly serve their communities on a daily basis."

The Extreme Makeover: Home Edition producers are looking for families whose homes desperately need to be rebuilt. “We really want to help families whose homes present major problems for the family, those big issues that affect the family's quality of life on a daily basis. We want to find deserving people who just don't have the resources, ability, or time to fix those serious issues without our help.”

To be eligible, a family must own their own single family home and be able to show producers how a makeover will make a huge difference in their lives.

Nominations may be submitted by the family or by a member of their community. Each nomination must include the names and ages of every member of the household along with a description of the major challenges within the home. Anyone submitting a nomination should be sure to explain why the nominated family is deserving, heroic, and/or a great role model for their community. If possible, include a recent photo of the family. All nominations must include a contact phone number.

The deadline for nominations is February 17th, 2010. Don’t delay!

Each episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is self-contained and features a race against time to complete a project that would ordinarily take at least four months, involving a team of designers, contractors and several hundred workers who have just seven days to totally rebuild an entire property: every single room of the house, plus the exterior and landscaping.

The lives of the lucky families are forever changed when they learn that they have been selected to have their home walls moved, their floors replaced and even their façades radically changed. The result should be a decorator’s delight… if it can be done in time.

Each episode begins with team leader Ty Pennington’s now-famous “Good morning!” wake-up call, when he and his design team surprise the unsuspecting family with news that their home has been chosen to receive a makeover. Viewers not only witness the unbelievable transformation of the house, but during the final and emotional reveal, they see how the home makeover has impacted the lives of the deserving families.

The design team includes team leader Ty Pennington, with designers Paul DiMeo, Paige Hemmis, Michael Moloney, Ed Sanders, Tracy Hutson, Eduardo Xol, John Littlefield and Didi Ayer.

I hate Extreme Makeover Home Edition. It exploits needing/deserving families for their emotional stories and situations and promotes and feeds the idea of unbridled consumerism and value based on material possessions.

Also, the story you posted seems to overlook the fact that you've already been to Nebraska (a family in Lincoln has already been exploited by the show).

And, of course, most of these poor deserving families can't pay the taxes and bills on all of the extravagant bullshit given to them and get foreclosed on, leaving them far worse off.

Ironically, I am the opposite. I don't watch the show, but I would rather some deserving family get a free home than some POS, drugged-up, Hollywood, freaks demanding a million dollars a week.

I'll have to admit though, I'd be interested to see how the families are doing 5-10 years after the show. I wonder how many of them would be using their gift wisely and how many had squandered it.
