Had a chance to get free tickets to that Sept 2nd game... but didn't want to miss the Iowa Star Party.

Omaha Royals may get new name to go with stadium
Omaha Royals officials say the team will likely get a new name when it moves next year to a new stadium southwest of Omaha.
General Manager Martie Cordaro says fans will be able to submit suggestions for the new name of the Kansas City Royals' Triple-A affiliate. Team officials will compile the suggestions and allow fans to vote for their favorite.
Cordaro and owner Allen Stein say the city's name will stay in the team name, but Golden Spikes will not be an option for the nickname. That was the name of the Triple A team from 1999 to 2002.

Just wondering with the new ball park coming on line next year, will the Royals attempt to go head to head with the CWS, or will they continue to be out of town?

In a radio interview I heard I think it was said that keeping it the same was an option. It will be partially up to a vote of the fans from a list of options that too will partially be from the fans suggestions.
As for in town for the CWS. I have not seen anything specific but I will be shocked if they are not playing in town for at least part of the CWS. part of the problem was laving town for a prime part of their season and the scheduling conflicts and accommodations that the league had with this gap. I cannot see a scenario where they would choose to leave town on their own to avoid the CWS
For the record NEBUGEATER does not equal BUGEATER !!!!!!!

They have said Time and Time again, they will play a normal schedule next year, if it goes up against a CWS game, so be it.
As far as the name, I on the radio a while back that they have to pay a fee to use the name "Royals" that's why most of the other teams have their own names.

Smartest decision they made was leaving "Omaha" in the name. Dropping "Omaha" from the name hurt the Lancers when they left town; it sent a message to prospective fans they weren't part of Omaha anymore. Now people won't realize that they left town until the first time they drive to a game...

I think they should not use the Omaha name. It's clear they don't want to be here so don't use the name. The Papio Woodswingers sounds good.

They did want to be here. Their current and prior ownership groups for years lobbied for a DT stadium. They worked on legislation (one time it was in tandem with trying to get Cabela's to the area) to help fund a minor league ballpark downtown. This was long before anyone even thought of the CWS moving to DT. Then the whole Fahey let's do a combo, with moving seats so we can have both the Royals and CWS DT blew up when the NCAA stated they were against the movable seats concept. You also gave the stadium to MECA when they fought the stadium on their property (at one time comparing the downtown stadium next to Qwest as having a gas station go up on land next to your home). So MECA took control, the stadium was designed specifically for the CWS and that forced the Royals to look elsewhere. Ask any UNO hockey fan how they feel about UNO as a MECA tenant and the revenue and you will find out why the Royals were unable to make the DT stadium work for them.
The Royals wanted to be in this market. They could have moved to Sugarland, Texas into a brand new park that is fully funded by the local taxpayers down there. There were also other cities choosing to court them. They stayed and I'm very thankful they did.

Except I would say your average UNO fan cares about atmostphere much more than any Royals "fan" does. They were running the team well and making money off of it at Rosenblatt which apparently has a horrible atmosphere for games. They should have realized they were always going to play second fiddle to the CWS and were even subsidized for it. Boohoo. Ancient history now but they overall decided to leave Omaha behind so they should leave the name behind.

World Famous Budweiser Clydesdales to Appear at Rosenblatt
Our Sports Central wrote:The world-famous Budweiser Clydesdales, the symbol of quality and tradition for Anheuser-Busch since 1933, are scheduled to make several appearances in the Omaha area, including one at Rosenblatt Stadium in conjunction with the Omaha Royals game on Sunday, June 13th. During the 1:35 p.m. contest vs. the Nashville Sounds, the Royals will offer fans a Budweiser special, with $3 Budweiser and Bud Light 16-ounce cans available.
Canadians of Scottish descent brought the first Clydesdales to America in the mid-1800's. Horses chosen for the Budweiser Clydesdale Hitch must be at least three years of age, stand approximately 18 hands - or six feet - at the shoulder, weigh an average of 2000 pounds, must be bay in color, have four white stockings, and a blaze of white on the face and black mane and tail. A gentle temperament is very important as hitch horses meet millions of people each year.
A single Clydesdale hitch horse will consume as much as 20-25 quarts of feed, 40-50 pounds of hay and 30 gallons of water per day. Each hitch travels with a Dalmatian. In the early days of brewing, Dalmatians were bred and trained to protect the horses and guard the wagon when the driver went inside to make deliveries.

Callups change All-Star landscape
Vote for Gordon and Kia'aihue here
Minor League Baseball wrote:In the PCL, there are several close races that seem to only get closer by the game. Sacramento's Jack Cust (.273 average, .444 OBP) overtook Omaha's Alex Gordon (.353 average, .502 OBP, 629 SLG) as the leader for the DH spot, but Cust is currently with the A's. The two are separated by mere votes.
Sacramento's Chris Carter and Omaha's Kila Kia'aihue have separated themselves from the pack in the race for the PCL first base nod. Carter (15 homers, 47 RBIs, 45 runs) and Kia'aihue (.327 average, .502 OBP, 58 walks) have both had stellar years and would each be deserving selections.

It would of been cool for Omaha to get the AAA All-Star Game one year, but by the looks of it the new stadium is much smaller than the other places that get awarded.

If the Royals cared about accommodating that many fans, they wouldn't be building a second stadium. Approximately 8500 is the maximum capacity of the new ballpark.thenewguy wrote:i haven't seen the area in person in which the new stadium will be built, but is there a way to accommodate that many fans in the surrounding areas?

No, i know the stats on seating and stuff, but there is obviously a large demand for the 4th of July game due to fireworks. There's a lot of revenue to be had on tickets sales there...HskrFanMike wrote:If the Royals cared about accommodating that many fans, they wouldn't be building a second stadium. That assumes they do the 4th of July fireworks with the Royals once they move. My understanding is that the current show is a combined effort of the Royals, OWH, and the city. The City is clearly out next year (though the Sarpy County government could replace that, obviously), and I wouldn't be shocked to see the OWH put its money elsewhere, too.
Frankly, I think separating the fireworks from the ballgame wouldn't be a horrible idea. Join it to a free concert at Rick's Boatyard and/or combine it with the Harrahs show to make it extra big would be just as grand, in my opinion.

My guess is that it will either be scrapped completely (hey, OWH is not exactly raking in the ad revenue lately ...) or else moved downtown, same theme, right after a game of the Omaha Boondoggles (or whatever they will call the second team, if it really happens). I agree that the new stadium was not designed with special promotional events in mind.

The Royals have said that some of the larger events will be spread out to multiple games. Not sure how they will do that with fireworks, but with the school kids and such they will have several kids days.Omababe wrote:I agree that the new stadium was not designed with special promotional events in mind.
With the exception of 3 games, every "event" they have at Rosenblatt, will fit in the new stadium.
