They're both (TT and Leach) playing chicken right now. Leach knows he's not getting the money TT is offering at any other school, and TT knows they're not getting a top tier coach to come to Tech.

If I'm Leach, I take what Tech is offering and hope I can stay at the top of my game...

...until the ND job opens up.

I've bought and sold enough stuff to be able to tell you unequivocally:

When someone tells you it's not about the money, it's about the money.

The fine print, in this case, is about how much money it will cost Leach if and when he bolts for someplace else.

Well whatever the case, it just ended as they reached a deal.

Texas Tech, Mike Leach reach agreement on contract extension
BRANDON GEORGE / The Dallas Morning News wrote:Texas Tech and Mike Leach have finally agreed to a contract extension after more than 10 months of negotiations, keeping the football coach at the school through 2013, a source with knowledge of the talks told The Dallas Morning News on Thursday.

Leach met with Tech chancellor Kent Hance for almost three hours Thursday afternoon and the two sides have agreed to Tech's $12.7 million offer that will extend Leach's current two-year deal three more seasons. The contract hasn't been signed, but that could take place as early as Friday, the source said.

Tech athletic director Gerald Myers and Leach's IMG agents, Gary O'Hagan and Matt Baldwin, didn't attend the meeting, which was just between Leach and Hance, the source said. Leach and Hance could not be reached for comment.

Interesting tidbit (and I only know this because I just watched W last week), but Kent Hance is the guy that beat W in a Texas Congressional race in the 70s. It is Bush's only loss in an election...

...unless you count the election he didn't win in 2000. :;):
