Apparently it was everyone elses opinion as well. He was No. 9 in his time slot with males 25-44, which would be his MAIN demographic.

If Matt were hosting a top-5 show, he's not going anywhere. The one time he had a good book was an anomaly (proven by previous and subsequent books) and people in the media know how it happened.

I'd be surprised if he ended up doing a show in a top-100 market. His show was very amateurish.

In radio you get fired for bad numbers and when you get fired you leave, not hang around until your contract runs out.

He is moving to a radio station back east, he will say where when its official.

His ratings were terrible and he was very much an amateur. As someone pointed out in the blog:

"Also when he asked Phillip Bates if he grew up a husker fan only to have Bates ask him if realized his dad was a starting fullback for the huskers was an example of lack of preparation."

-The few times I listened to him, it came off as a train wreck similar to this. He tried to sell a very pro-Creighton product and, unfortunately, that demographic, while under served, is not large enough to get the ratings needed on its own. The problem is that what he complemented that with was not in demand either. This, coupled with his lack of professional skills, doomed him.

Perrault just did his last Bluejay Post game show and he ended it by thanking everyone and said he doesn't know when his last day is, but it could be any day and he hopes he is on the air tomorrow...

Bingo. I know it's hard for CU fans to accept that, but they just don't have the following to justify a four hour talk show every day. 1620 still covers CU, but they don't drone on and on about them and the MVC through the entire show like Matt did.

Anyone who says that 1620's show is 100% Huskers has never listened to them. Much like anyone who says Perrault is all Bluejay love and Husker hate has probably never listened to him.

I find it hard to believe Perrault was going to decrease his pay by 2/3 instead of looking for a job elsewhere.

I use to listed a lot more back in the day, I like Bob, way better than Mike'l, I know its 100% husker, I just like the variety of everything on 590 better.

With all the layoffs in radio now days, I would take a pay cut and stay in a stable area where you have great ties a major university.

Matts last show is tomorrow, 2-6 on Big Sports 590. Damn March 31st 2009, the day local sports talk dies in Omaha, looks like Ill have to break out the Ipod when driving in the afternoon now.

I really wish they would have taken him up on the 2/3 salary cut. I would tune in to hear a guy making $19,000 a year while living in his car do radio. Face it jay 07, if the guy was getting ratings and bringing in money he would still be around. You don't kill a cash cow.

Radio shows are being cut nation wide. Clear Channel cut 10% of its staff. Radio is almost as bad as the newspapers right now.

Its a sad day for Omaha radio. I am not sure what I will listen to tomorrow.

Did you not read the Blog, ratings and money had nothing to do with it. Brad is right, radio stations are cutting jobs left and right, FSR let Andrew Siciliano, one of the best young talents on the air today, go earlier this year. He was getting the ratings, why did they let him go?

Just for the sake of arguement, what did you expect him to say? "Yeah they let me go because my ratings were in the toilet." Nobody would ever say that. I'm not saying that is or isn't why he was fired, just that someone in that position probably would spin it differently. Probably harder to find another gig if you've been fired because of ratings.

Ok so why doesn't BS 590 bring in another guy to do a local show, why are they just going with the National show |expletive|. I'm pretty sure if Matt was "fired" in December, like he said he was, he would not have hung around until April. Also I don't think Matt would lie about this, BS could come out and say he was fired and we are looking for a replacement but that's obviously not the case. I really don't get what is so hard to understand when they have come out and said this has nothing to do with ratings.

It is ratings based. Radio is a business, and if "The Big Show" was pulling in enough of an audience, they would be able to sell advertising and make money on the show. Even a 2/3 pay cut didn't make the numbers work.

Bottom like is that Journal management thinks that they can make more money (or lose less) with Fox Sports Radio in the drivetime slot than they do with Perrault. That's partly due to the economy, but also due to the fact that his show wasn't very good. It found a niche audience with Creighton fans, and that was good enough to push it to 9th place in the "key demographic" during basketball season.

There's a reason why Perrault stayed on until the end of basketball season. They may have been turning a small profit during hoops season, but now that niche audience drifts away until the fall.

I just think Message Boards in General are way too negative. This one is not as bad as some, but people don give a |expletive| when they are posting to another "name". Ok since 2 or 3 of you are complaining, I unlocked this...

Until one you show ACTUAL PROOF This was not rating based.

There are TWO sports shows in town... sometimes 1620 was #1 and sometimes 590 was #1 Don't give me low ratings because both sports shows had "Bad Ratings". I don't understand how people on this discussion forum can go in one thread and talk about how bad the economy is, all the newspapers folding, radio laying people off, then come in to this thread WITH OUT PROOF and just say it was ratings biased. No one that liked the station said it was ratings based.

In radio, you have bad ratings they FIRE YOU and REPLACE YOU with another show. Here they said in December that his contract was not being renewed, let him work for 3 more months, and then the DID NOT REPLACE him. Now we have a bunch of national |expletive|.

I suppose it's possible that he has good ratings, but that doesn't matter if the advertisers aren't there. Have you ever noticed how many of their commercials were PSAs? Those are what you run when you don't have real commercials to air.

Yes, they certainly do, I get tired of hearing Mike'l constantly pimping Huber, and that Sheboygan sausage commercial is like fingernails across a chalkboard...but those are the types of sponsors The Big Show was never able to get for whatever reason.

I'm hearing that in a couple of weeks, Travis Justice will host an afternoon show on BS590 from 2-4PM (this could be a rumor though..April Fools joke)..Yet they couldn't 'afford' to keep Matt on the air. I smell a rat..

Matt posted on the Bluejay Cafe and said he talked to Travis and that the report is false, trav is not taking over.

Heh, this is where I differ from everyone again, if they gave Travis a show I would definitely listen. And putting him on Matt's show was a good idea too, SOMEONE needed to be there to occasionally call BS on Matt, and lord knows he wouldn't allow his listeners to do it.
