They say is the WCHA is a better conference with less travel and more money. I forget the exact numbers but the WCHA has about 1/2 of all the national championships ever won. It should be better for fans because teams like North Dakota, Denver, and Minisota will be close enough for fans to drive too.

WCHA:
Denver
St. Cloud State
Minnesota Duluth
Wisconsin
Colorado College
North Dakota
Minnesota
Alaska Anchorage
Minnesota State
Michigan Tech

Also - UNO was originally slated to be in the WCHA (makes sense with old NCC friends UND St. Cloud and Mankato) until WCHA got cold feet. But recently College Hockey America lost their automatic bid and the league fell apart - so the WCHA wanted to pick up Bemidji State and if so needed another school to make an even twelve - UNO fit - so they finally wanted UNO again. Alabama-Huntsville will likely go from CHA to the CCHA to even out the 12 team conference. Former CHA teams Robert Morris and Niagara joined Atlantic Hockey to make 12 teams. ECAC has 12 teams while Hockey East has 10.

The flaw in your plan being that the CCHA already shot down UAH. That's not to say they won't consider adding them again at a later date (probably when the economy improves and travel budgets are less an issue), but right now UAH is SOL.

Nebraska-Omaha snapped Miami’s 23-game unbeaten streak in CCHA play with a victory, 4-2. Sophomore forward Alex Hudson broke a 2-2 tie 3:56 into the third period and junior forward Matt Ambroz contributed with a goal of his own 1:32 later for the Mavericks. Senior forward Nick Fanto opened the scoring for Nebraska-Omaha 3:55 into the game. Fanto also added an assist. Junior forwards Carter Camper and Tommy Wingels each scored to put the RedHawks ahead before junior forward Rich Purslow knotted the game at two with a goal in the middle of the second for the Mavericks. Wingels tallied an assist on Camper’s goal as well.

Bemidji series is big; will crowds be, too?

http://www.omaha.com/article/20100221/M ... 951/0/mavs
Chad Purcell, OWH wrote:Omaha sports fans have a chance to show off their hockey IQs this weekend, when UNO hosts a huge nonconference series against Bemidji State.

Sure, it's easy to get people's attention when the Mavs are hosting Michigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame or Michigan State. But what kind of crowds will show up at the Qwest Center this weekend when the Beavers (no, not the ones from Oregon State) travel the road to Omaha?

Here's hoping the turnout will match the importance of these games.

You've never seen Bemidji State play in a BCS bowl game. You've never pondered picking this northern Minnesota school for an upset on your NCAA tournament hoops bracket.

But rest assured, the team coming to town on Friday and Saturday plays some serious college hockey.

UNO and Bemidji State together are set to join the WCHA next season. This weekend's series will light the fuse on what should be an intense rivalry in the future.

Mavs see benefit in big surge to finish

http://www.omaha.com/article/20100221/M ... 51/-1/mavs
Chad Purcell WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER wrote:Regardless where the Mavs finish in the league, however, consider what UNO has accomplished while going 7-2-1 in its last 10 games:

• The Mavs swept a Northern Michigan club that's surged its way through the second half. The Wildcats have only three losses total so far in 2010, two against UNO and one at Michigan's Yost Arena

• UNO split its series at Notre Dame, ending an eight-game winless streak against the Fighting Irish that dated back to November 2006. It also marked the Mavs' first win at the Joyce Center since the 2004-05 season.

• The Mavs kicked off February by grabbing five of six points from a talented Ohio State team that had lost only one game — at No. 12 Michigan State — in January.

• UNO then swept Michigan for the first time in school history. That series saw the Mavericks end an eight-game losing streak against the Wolverines that stretched to the 2005-06 season.

• In splitting the series at Miami, the Mavs handed the RedHawks only their second league loss of the season. Miami had been unbeaten in 23 consecutive CCHA games (19-0-4) since late October. UNO also ended its 12-game winless streak (0-11-1) against the RedHawks that began in January 2005.

“I think we've answered the bell,” said UNO coach Dean Blais. “The guys definitely have gotten better over the course of the year, and this win (over Miami) was just a great team win.”

And here's the most important development of all: The Mavs (17-13-6, 13-12-3-2 CCHA) now have put themselves squarely in the hunt for an at-large NCAA tournament invitation.

The victory over Miami moved UNO into a tie for 18th in the USCHO.com PairWise power rankings. The Mavs have a chance to climb even higher next weekend, when they host a key nonconference series against ninth-ranked Bemidji State. The Beavers, who made it to the Frozen Four last year, are tied for fourth in the PairWise.
