2010 Omaha Royals - Final Season at the Blatt!

Post by nebport5 »

The common denominator with the fireworks show was the City, The World Herald, and Rosenblatt. The end of Rosenblatt makes the show leave Rosenblatt, not The Royals leaving. If Meca rounds up a team in time for next year expect the TD Ameritrade to house the show. If not, is it unfathomable for the Royals tradition to play one game a year in front of a full crowd to continue downtown?

Sure The Royals can still have a Sarpy show if they like, but of the previous magnitude and not with The city of Omaha and The World Herald.
"It's just a rendering."

Ex-Husker Johnson wins Triple A Home Run Derby
It took just one pitch and one swing of former Nebraska standout Dan Johnson’s bat in a tiebreaker to win the Triple-A Home Run Derby in Allentown, Pa., on Monday night. Johnson, who plays for the Durham Bulls, the top affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, and Andy Tracy of the hometown Lehigh Valley IronPigs both hit 10 home runs in the final to set up the tiebreaker.

Tracy hit a combined eight to edge another former Husker, Alex Gordon, by one homer for the last berth in the finals.

That pretty much been the stated objective for about a year. They do say that the Royals name will be one of those considered but I am betting it will be a new name. IF you look around there are few minor league teams that share names with the parent club. One of the objectives it to not have to share licensing revenue with the parent club when the name is shared. Almighty $$$ speaks again

Its because if they use the Parent club name, they have to pay royalties. I am sure the Omaha team would like to pocket that money instead of sending it to KC every year.

There was literally just about nobody at the game last night. Made for very good heckling weather, though.

Royals take no chances on rain

http://www.omaha.com/article/20100901/N ... es-on-rain
Nancy Gaarder WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER wrote:With a near-sellout crowd expected and a festive evening planned for their final game at Rosenblatt Stadium, the Omaha Royals have purchased insurance against the one thing that could ruin Thursday.

Rain.

“There’s a lot of history involved; we’ve got people coming from around the country — VIPs, a final game sponsor — and special events planned for our fans,” said Martie Cordaro, Royals vice president and general manager.

“There’s not going to be an opportunity to make this up.”

Rosenblatt down to the final out

http://www.omaha.com/article/20100902/N ... -final-out
Christopher Burbach WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER wrote:The Royals' last regular season game at the 62-year-old stadium may strike some as anti-climactic, a part of the dénouement in the Rosenblatt story after the College World Series' dramatic last blast there in June.

The stadium's not quite dead. The Omaha Nighthawks will play professional football there this fall, beginning Sept. 24. Omaha Central and Creighton Prep plan to play a high school football game at Rosenblatt Oct. 8, a reprise of their classic 1960 contest involving Gale Sayers. And Henry Doorly Zoo officials, who will take ownership of Rosenblatt Jan. 1, haven't announced a demolition date yet.

If they aren't going to refund tickets or have a make-up date, then what do they need rain insurance for?

A lot of the overhead for festivities planned for the fans and other accommodations have already been made. I would also bet that they purchased insurance for their projected revenues for that night.

I would guess they plan on making a small fortune off souvenirs and concessions tonight. They probably have laid out a boatload of money for all the extras tonight. I am guessing if it does rain and only 5000 people show up, they want to cover their losses.

Yeah, 18,000 people buying all of those concessions. Plus it will be a long night with all of the stuff before and after the game. Will definitely set a record on souvenirs as well I'm sure. I was there Friday night and they were selling a lot the last bat at the 'blatt stuff.

I was told not to post this before the game, but did anyone get a Rosenblatt Photo when they left the game last night?

At the first pitch I shot a photo of the stadium (too bad people were still getting in). Soon as I took the pic, I handed the card to Rob who ran it to the Royals office and gave it to Eldon. Eldon merged the pano, and emailed it to Omaha Print who printed 7000 copies and they handed them out to people leaving after the fireworks!

Overall it was a good night. They Royals won, Home plate was dug up and is on its way to coopers town, Jessie got to say good bye, then Steve Rosenblatt got to hit the last pitch, then a good firework show.

After all was said and done, the stadium was empty, the Royals Staff, Grounds keepers, and bunch of others were having a party up in the stadium club and you could look out over an empty stadium and Steve Rosenblatt was sitting in the dugout all by him self just looking at the field.

Nope, I let it be. I was in the stadium club, I am not sure it would have even turned out.

Probably one of those moments that could make a great shot but is equally great to just be left alone.

That is nice but like you commented it would have been nice if it could have been taken a bit later when the stands were fuller.

Yes we got one. That was a very cool thing by the Royals to do this. I do agree on the timing because it did get a lot fuller but obviously time was critical to pull this off.

Would love to see how much was sold in concessions and souvenir's last night. The lines were busy from start to finish for concessions. I tried several times to get into the team store and even 10 minutes after the fireworks there was about 50 people waiting to get in.

Very cool they won, Moose hit a HR and Collins came in for a quick ninth. First time I've seen him pitch. Love the high leg kick.

oh sweet, nice pic Brad. I didn't realize it was a shot of that actual game. Yes, I got one too.

Impressive turn around time there... I just sort of assumed it was some other rather full evening (like a July 4 game)...
