Though it was cold and we did get snow in November, I considered it just a little taste, not so much the beginning of winter since all of December and half of January was above average. I still consider it a brutal February, not an all-around brutal and long Winter, because it was so mild before mid January. But that's my opinion.Cermak wrote: Thu Feb 28, 2019 5:19 am This has been a long winter, if I remember we had snow on a Sunday in Early November or it might of been October, I remember we still had some leaves on the trees so it was very early. And we had a snowstorm the first week of December. Then we hit a mild stretch that lasted for maybe a month including a mild and dry Christmas. Except for the first week of January and Super bowl weekend, January and February have been miserable with the polar vortex and many smaller snowstorms maybe 2-5 inches each time . And then the blizzard last weekend was the ultimate punch in the mouth. To make things even worse the avg high now is about 40 and we can’t even get above freezing. I’m ready for spring. Easily the worst winter in 10 years.

Re: 2018 Severe Weather Thread
I looked up 2019 Tornado predictions and they feel there will be around 1,100 tornadoes this season -- which is average. Yet, Nebraska is listed as one of the states predicted to have the most risk this season. Heads up...
I can get pushed out because I'm "too much" for some. Then, an observer of me comes suddenly swooping in to "fill my shoes." People are always more accepting of the new one, because their feathers aren't truly ruffled by them. (Yawn) I can count on it every time.

I get the feeling the longer the cold hangs on, the more severe the transition will be. I'm getting the early feeling that the skies will be active this spring.GetUrban wrote: Thu Feb 28, 2019 6:38 pm On a positive note....the closer we get to June, the more dramatic the warm-up will be. Hopefully not too dramatic. The higher sun angle and warm air working its way back in will eventually prevail.

Re: 2018 Severe Weather Thread
One of my favorite pass-times is watching tornado videos on YouTube. It does seem like there hasn't been much new material since the active year of 2013, at least not many big, violent tornadoes. It has been pretty calm the last few years, and I just get the feeling that trend won't continue into this year. Of course, I could end up being totally wrong. We'll see.RockHarbor wrote: Fri Mar 01, 2019 2:00 am I looked up 2019 Tornado predictions and they feel there will be around 1,100 tornadoes this season -- which is average. I saw those earlier, when surfing the net about Omaha weather records. I would train to be a spotter myself this year, if back there. Believe me, I'm sure I could be a good "weather whistleblower" for the city.

Look up Wynnewood, OK from last year. Very good stuff.Busguy2010 wrote: Fri Mar 01, 2019 2:51 amOne of my favorite pass-times is watching tornado videos on YouTube. It looks like the same system that'll give us rain on Saturday has potential to deliver severe weather as close as Kansas City and maybe even St Joseph. Their high temperature will be in the mid 50's. I sense that spring storms will be coming our way before too much longer! (But not without some snow too)

I do feel like it will just be a kickin' season. We'll have to wait and see. I so wish I were chasing storms... (However, I just know if I were in a group in a big van parked on the side of a gravel road, being hit with big hailstones, and a twister touching down nearby, and the dust suddenly kicking up, I would be freaking...)Busguy2010 wrote: Wed Mar 06, 2019 8:03 pm It looks like the same system that'll give us rain on Saturday has potential to deliver severe weather as close as Kansas City and maybe even St Joseph.
