With that, McDermott might have just become the third best college basketball coach in the state. :lafcry:

Nebraska forward Isaiah Roby enters NBA draft, keeping options open
Roby will not hire an agent and will keep his options open, he said, meaning he could return to NU next season.

You can't have a year like Roby just had and get drafted. Hes going to have to come back like it or not and hes going to have to stand and deliver or his NBA dreams are over.

I dont see how he could get drafted after this season, either. He’s good, but not NBA good.

He entered his name in the draft last year too. I am guessing just like last year he knows what the odds are. Without an agent he will still get official feedback on where he stands and what he needs to be working on and that is where the value is at.

Unless he wants to play overseas he will be back because I do not believe he is graduating early and would need to sit out a year.

According to Robin Washut, 2020 recruit Donovan Williams is still in. Stated Hoiberg was the coach he wanted. Williams did like Washut’s tweet.

Surprised he took this job, but when you think about it . It does make some sense. Plus the facilities are top notch and the pays not bad either. Will Nebraska finally become a Basketball power ?

I’m not surprised Hoiberg took the job at all..

7 year $25 million dollar deal at $3.57 million a year ranking him the 11th highest paid HC in division I college basketball..

He’d be stupid NOT to take it...

So far I have heard the short list that includes
Dana Altman
Fred Hoiberg (born in Lincoln)
Gregg Marshall
Candidates or unrealistic wishlists?

Crazy how things changed in a short time. The Hoiberg hire reminded me of NU getting into the Big 10. When it first got floated, everyone said no way the Big 10 takes Nebraska. Similar with Hoiberg, many quickly dismissed NU's chances as a unrealistic wish.

So true. Nebraska always went the mid major route to get a Basketball coach and hoped for the best. Hoiberg comes with a proven coaching record at the major college level. And has NBA experience as a Head coach and front office executive. I think he is intrigued to coach in the Big 10, arguably the best basketball conference in college. If Nebraska was still in the Big 12 I don’t think he comes here. Unlike football you can have a very good basketball team with just 2-3 really good players. Look at Creighton when they had Kyle Korver or Doug McDermott they had some of their best teams. Football is much harder to build into a winner because it requires Many great athletes in so many different positions . We’ve seen basketball teams emerge into winners with even just one great player.

Might suggest that since we have similar conversations going on in two threads that we continue the talk about the new staff and future of Husker Basketball in the Nebraska Basketball 2019/20 thread and let this 2018/19 thread wilt away. Of course if there is something pertinent to the season that just ended carry on here.
