Thanks for the chart. It is hard to believe that considering the amount of growth both Papillion and Gretna are experiencing, that why added 14 and 8 residents, respectively.

Yeah, if you look at Omaha it jumped from 408,958 to 453,217 between the 2010 Census and 2011 estimate. The following estimates then only jump up a few thousand each year.

As for Papillion and Gretna, there could be a lot of growth outside city limits which is why their numbers are so low. I'm sure some of that 3k balance of Sarpy County can be attributed to them.

Yeah, these estimates give us some good data to look into between decades.. Many times when the “official” census comes out, there are a few surprises with the numbers compared with yearly estimates. I’ve noticed the Omaha MSA, sometimes, is lowballed in the estimates and when the official census comes out, the number spikes up more than expected. I believe we saw this both for the 2000 and 2010 final census count for the Omaha metro...

Well I also remember the 2009 estimate for Omaha being something like 448,000 and we were shocked when the census only counted 409,000 in 2010

Omaha taking advantage of the state liberal annexation laws within counties..Unlike some other land locked cities in states who are unable to do so.. Thus losing population and tax base..

I don’t blame Omaha at all for going on “annexation benders” from time to time. The benefits are pretty obvious for the city...
