This is a pretty cool Micropolitan, metropolitan and CSA chart listing all areas for the 2018 estimate..

Even more fascinating is that this incredibly in depth look at all U.S. population hubs is a German based web site.

Given the number of Germans that know about the mass exodus of Germans to the middle of the US, this particularly surprising.nativeomahan wrote: Mon May 13, 2019 9:59 pm Even more fascinating is that this incredibly in depth look at all U.S. population hubs is a German based web site.

Regardless of its origin, I’m glad I stumbled upon this table. I find it even more useful than the tables provided by the US Census...bigredmed1 wrote: Tue May 14, 2019 1:08 pmGiven the number of Germans that know about the mass exodus of Germans to the middle of the US, this particularly surprising.nativeomahan wrote: Mon May 13, 2019 9:59 pm Even more fascinating is that this incredibly in depth look at all U.S. population hubs is a German based web site.

Well, history teaches us that Germans are obsessed with statistics and record keeping.

Doesn't mean as much as metro, but city estimates are out.

Omaha at 468,262. Looks like we passed Long Beach, CA, but were jumped by Raleigh, Miami and Colorado Springs.

Thanks for the chart. It is hard to believe that considering the amount of growth both Papillion and Gretna are experiencing, that why added 14 and 8 residents, respectively.

I agree, while nice to look at, I think the estimates are usually quite a bit off.ita wrote: Fri May 24, 2019 10:55 am Thanks for the chart. It is hard to believe that considering the amount of growth both Papillion and Gretna are experiencing, that why added 14 and 8 residents, respectively.

Yeah, if you look at Omaha it jumped from 408,958 to 453,217 between the 2010 Census and 2011 estimate. The following estimates then only jump up a few thousand each year.skinzfan23 wrote: Fri May 24, 2019 11:04 amI agree, while nice to look at, I think the estimates are usually quite a bit off.ita wrote: Fri May 24, 2019 10:55 am Thanks for the chart. As for Papillion and Gretna, there could be a lot of growth outside city limits which is why their numbers are so low. I'm sure some of that 3k balance of Sarpy County can be attributed to them.

Yeah, these estimates give us some good data to look into between decades.. Many times when the “official” census comes out, there are a few surprises with the numbers compared with yearly estimates. I’ve noticed the Omaha MSA, sometimes, is lowballed in the estimates and when the official census comes out, the number spikes up more than expected. I believe we saw this both for the 2000 and 2010 final census count for the Omaha metro...HR Paperstacks wrote: Fri May 24, 2019 12:16 pmYeah, if you look at Omaha it jumped from 408,958 to 453,217 between the 2010 Census and 2011 estimate. Well I also remember the 2009 estimate for Omaha being something like 448,000 and we were shocked when the census only counted 409,000 in 2010HR Paperstacks wrote: Fri May 24, 2019 12:16 pmYeah, if you look at Omaha it jumped from 408,958 to 453,217 between the 2010 Census and 2011 estimate. Then we made up for it by going on an annexation bender.

Omaha taking advantage of the state liberal annexation laws within counties..Unlike some other land locked cities in states who are unable to do so.. Thus losing population and tax base..
I don’t blame Omaha at all for going on “annexation benders” from time to time. The benefits are pretty obvious for the city...
