Yum, that restaurant sounds absolutely delicious! Good for Oak View!
I can get pushed out because I'm "too much" for some. Then, an observer of me comes suddenly swooping in to "fill my shoes." People are always more accepting of the new one, because their feathers aren't truly ruffled by them. (Yawn) I can count on it every time.

I feel the tables are maybe really turning for Oak View, and things are looking up for the mall -- almost like a ray of light is finally streaming down on it from the parting storm clouds. lol

I went into the rush market on opening day they are still working on filling the lower level of Younkers with fresh finds/goods. Very nice stuff. The staff at rush market was really friendly. It will be nice once both floors are open to the mall. It’s a good thing Younkers didn’t need to be bulldozed a very nice building inside. When I went inside Oakview the Dillard’s and JCPEnney wings were “healthy” with only a couple closed up stores. It’s weird that stores on the former Younkers wing now Rush Market seem to show the biggest decline in traffic and it feels like a ghost town a bit on the Younkers wing. I hope they can put some non traditional retail stores in Oakview. It looks like they are renovating the elevator and I noticed something very interesting a couple of guys in construction hats were walking throughout the mall and I went to the former entrance to the Sears and noticed a guy going up the escalator in the Sears with a suit and tie and another going with a clip board and they were walking around the Sears pointing at things and writing stuff done. Maybe it’s wishful thinking on my part, but I bet with new ownership something has to be going on in Sears now too or else I wouldn’t have seen the guys in the abandoned sears making notes on things. Overall I think Oakview shouldn’t be torn down it is still a nice, clean beautiful mall that has fallen victim to Amazon and old management who didn’t invest in it like Westroads. I’m hopeful that it won’t become another Crossroads for at least a long time. It just needs some creative thinking/work as does as a lot of retail space. I’m

Well, these are great observations and I thank you for sharing them..

I believe slowly, but surely, we are seeing some positive signs of rejuvenation for the Mall component of the Oakview Mousetrap. And absolutely, the mall should not “be torn down”..period.. It’ll be very interesting to see what further plans are announced for the Mall..

Equally important, is the surrounding orbit of retail within the Mousetrap area. We have been told, through Grow Omaha, that new ownership has purchased several shuddered parcels.. I’m anxiously awaiting to see what comes of this as well..

It’s been long needed and awaited that Oakview gets some positive energy. Let’s hope this latest series of developments for the Mall component is a positive catalyst for the entire area...

A new food vendor just opened at Oakview mall. Rellos creamery makes Belgian waffles, artisan pops and soft serve ice cream. The Lower floor at the rush market has opened up.

Is Rush Market opened up in the mall area or is it only accessible from outside the mall?

Also, surprisingly, Shopko Optical is still open at the larger (and closed) Shopko store at 144th and Center. They don't even have it walled off -- you can see the entirety of the old store and have to walk through it to get the to optical dep. The Optical store is moving to 140th and Center , next to TMobile. I'm assuming it's the old Buck's Shoes

Would be awesome if they tore down Shopko. Dug down 30 feet. 2 levels of parking garage with an underground walkway under 144th (over to the medical buildings and the bus stop). Then build a 10 story apartment complex on top of the garage. Obviously some kind of walkway over to Family Fare. Then build a small hotel by the medical buildings geared more towards out of town outpatients.

Then make that whole strip where Old Navy used to be, the guitar center and pet store into apartments. And also where Babys R Us, make that apartments.

Good to see the foot court adding rather than subtracting. Also, good to hear the lower floor of Rush Market has opened up..

Some nice glimmers of hope for the Mousetrap...

Yet another restaurant/food vendor has apparently opened at Oakview. It’s called Calvert’s they make chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, salads and more. Just wish Oakview would get a raising canes or chick fil a but happy to see the space filled. Now it’s just a matter of getting some the inner stores particularly on the Younkers/Rush Market filled. I think Sears could be an entertainment place like Round One which gateway mall in Lincoln made just an idea.

My best friend's uncle and his wife opened Calvert's. Their hope is to someday start a stand-alone Asian restaurant (I believe that his wife is Korean), but they are trying to get some more restaurant experience first with this restaurant. I wish them well.

Does anyone know what’s happening to the concrete on the former Younkers/now Rush Market? It’s gray in random spots. My guess is maybe the Rush Market is putting a sign up.

Does anyone have ideas what could go into Sears? An entertainment venue? Maybe tear it down and be a grass commons area with two levels with small stores that enter the mall. It seems that every shopping mall or even outlet is struggling to fill its space. I just find it hard to believe that Westroads and Oakview don’t have some long term plan what to do. I bet things are tight lipped. West Farm as far as retail I’m starting to doubt is going to much anyway times are different for sure. I just hope for the best for retail in general. Shopping online is nice and all but it’s not good to see so many places going out widespread. Thoughts?

Be careful..

You’re inviting the “dying mall” crowd into a piling on feeding frenzy asking a question like that-as it relates to the Oakview Mousetrap, lol :;): ..

I think in general right now, any new developments for the area are in a holding pattern until after the holiday shopping season ends. I would suspect some new development announcements regarding small and large parcels to start trickling as early as the end of Q1 in 2020. Q2 and Q3 this year yielded some nice mini wins for the enclosed mall..

I’m looking forward to seeing where we’re at with the Mousetrap a year from now...

I was at Oakview last Saturday and I noticed there is some new development activity on the open space right next to the old Babies R Us location. Doesn't look like they are waiting until after the Holidays to me!

I agree..

But what I’m saying (and I’ll clarify as my last post insinuated developments are “on hold”. I didn’t quite word that correctly), is it’s doubtful we’ll hear any announcements regarding new developments until Q1 2020 and after the smoke clears from the holiday shopping season that’s all, lol :) ...

I heard the BK just closed at Oakview. I think a raising canes should replace it! Personally revamping the food court into a food hall would be great for Oakview just like what they did at Westroads. I know a lot of people have been down on Oakview lately but does everything think it has a chance to move forward?

There is already a Raising Canes at the shopping center on the NW corner of 144th and Center. If they did move to a 'food hall', Raising Canes wouldn't fit the bill; it's a national chain. Oakview's food court does have some locally owned eateries in place, I really like El Alambra. That particular restaurant was able to open a standalone restaurant in West O.

To me no single Omaha development took the retail crisis harder than Oak View mall. At one time it was a respectable attractive Mall, now it’s just a shell of its former self and it’s future is in question. For whatever reason it died out (probably location) and now we are all wondering what will happen to it next. I personally try and avoid the whole Oak View area as it’s a sad reminder of the vibrant retail location it once was. What a mess.

I would still favor demolishing the entire mall and redevelop the land. Instead of trying to save the mall with hodgepodge Ma and Pa retail, services and restaurants.

If you personally try to “avoid the whole Oak View area“ I question how you come up with your assessment..

Clearly, as has been stated countless times in this thread, Oak View and the Mousetrap area has certainly seen better days and over the last decade and 1/2, has taken its hits. No question about it. However, the area is hardly dead and has had some nice addition announcements over the past 9 or so months. Your post sounds like more “gloom and doom bias” than an actual accurate assessment. I can assure you, as someone who actually does not “personally try and avoid” the whole Oak View area, the place is hardly a mess..

You’re entitled to your opinion, of course.. It’s just not fair and accurate imo...

I do go a few times a year to the Barnes and Noble in the area so I notice the area then. But otherwise I avoid the whole Oak View mall scene. Both Oak View and Crossroads are just in limbo right now and it’s unclear what will become of them. It looks like Westroads is the only survivor. But even Westroads could falter, brick and mortar retail is shaky business these days.

[/quote]

You’re last post before this latest, would be a complete and accurate assessment of Crossroads. That place has been a mess for 20+ years now..and other than the Target addition about 12 or so years ago, the Crossroads has seen little, if any, addition and is a complete mess..

But lumping Oakview in with Crossroads, insinuating as you are that the condition of both destinations are the same or equal, is just completely inaccurate. Sorry..

Very recently, on another national city related discussion forum, a person commented that Omaha’s airport was “fairly small” and that should be a “consideration” when deciding to move to the Omaha/Lincoln area. I, of course, needed to jump in and indicate that Omaha’s Eppley Airfield moved 5 million passengers in and out last year and has 34 non stop destinations..both numbers being larger than Louisville KY, Oklahoma City and Tulsa OK, Memphis TN and Tucson AZ airports etc. The reason I addressed that post, was to provide actual balance to the insinuation that Omaha’s airport was some small “dirt strip”..

I’d say the same thing applies here. I live close to the Oakview Mousetrap area and I don’t personally try and avoid the area as you say you do. And I’ll say in no way, shape or form, is the Oakview Mousetrap remotely in the same condition as Crossroads.. As I’ve stated, the actual Mall has made some nice additions over the past 9 or so months and still has a viable and pretty busy food court.. The Parcels Surrounding the Mall have seen some additions too.. The Shuttered Dick’s Sporting Goods, for example, is being completely remodeled and will be replaced by a state of the art Genesis Fitness Center. Once that opens later this year, The Genesis (formerly 24 Hour Fitness) at 144th and F will close, driving it’s very large membership base into the Oakview area. This is another example of a huge plus for the area as it will increase daily traffic and thus provide more people to frequent the area..

Again, I’m addressing this as an actual accurate counter balance to your contention/insinuation that Oakview is a mess and comparable to the current condition of Crossroads..which clearly, it is not...
