We were just in Sioux Falls about 3 weeks ago and ate at the Pizza Ranch, the building it was in is probably going to be demolished.

Yep and I-90 was shut down from Mitchell west because of flooding after a heavy rain last night there and other places in eastern south dakota. They are reporting Sioux River might be back over flood stage.

A lot of water heading toward the Missouri River. I-90 now closed Sioux Falls to Plankinton about 100 miles. At My hometown, Brandon, 7 miles east if Sioux Falls, there is only one way in and out right now I-90 as all other highways under water. The Bid Sioux River is on the west side and SplitRock Creek on the east - that creek flows into Big Sioux and of course Big Sioux into Missouri River.

Well, last year our first real dip into fall weather occurred on September 21st, with a low of 50 and a high of 65, and a low of 47 the next morning. All after the high on the 20th was 95.

So far this month has been (annoyingly) above average with no indication of fall weather on the horizon yet.

Also looks like the precipitation record for this date has been broken today, with rain chances still left.

I enjoy one more month of summer. And that has been the trend for years, to have very warm autumn months, relative to “normal”.

Mid September has been above average at least the last 5 years (that's all I care to look back at), but in each of the previous four Septembers, there had already been a handful of days with highs below 70 with/or separate nights with lows well into the lower 50's/upper 40's by or right around this time. This September has been an exception in that regard.

Interestingly, in the previous 4 years, there was a period of well-above average temperatures into later-mid September followed by a significant drop-off to below average highs/lows sometime around the 20th. This September, there isn't a significant drop-off in the current 7-day forecast that goes through the 26th. If there isn't a drop-off forecast for the 26th through the 30th, we will be able to say that this September has been a departure from at least the last 5 years. And that it has also been much warmer than normal, in that there has been no relief (obviously I hate hot weather) as there have been no highs in the upper 60's/lower 70's and there's been no lows in the lower 50's/ upper 40's yet, which would be a departure from recent memory.

I, for one, am ready for some of that drop off. The average high is about 76 right now, which would be some of the best weather to have. Unfortunately, like mentioned above, it will probably drastically drop off.

I am not ready for the temperature to drop off and personally I love the heat. Fall is just depressing to me because of the descend into darkness & coldness. I remember last year it really turned around after fall hit. I'm glad we see the warmer temperatures continuing for now.

I love Omaha, but the colder months really make me consider relocating. I love being able to get outside and walk and once the coldness comes, it's a long and boring hibernation inside.

I am not ready for the temperature to drop off and personally I love the heat. Fall is just depressing to me because of the descend into darkness & coldness. I remember last year it really turned around after fall hit. I'm glad we see the warmer temperatures continuing for now.

I love Omaha, but the colder months really make me consider relocating. I love being able to get outside and walk and once the coldness comes, it's a long and boring hibernation inside.

It’s why we spend winters south of the border. I had my fill of snow, cold and wind chills. And like you said, it is difficult and certainly uncomfortable (and often dangerous) to be outdoors in the dark and freezing cold. I have seen too many people walking in the street after dark in winter, wearing only dark clothing.

Only thing that keeps me inside is snow/people who don't remove snow from their sidewalks. I love being outside when it is between 20 and 30 degrees. To each their own.

As someone who often walks to work, I am one of those people who walk in the street, and I can squarely place the blame for that on property owners who don't clear their sidewalks.

But I also look out for myself.

I have seen too many people walking in the street after dark in winter, wearing only dark clothing.

As someone who often walks to work, I am one of those people who walk in the street, and I can squarely place the blame for that on property owners who don't clear their sidewalks.

But I also look out for myself.

My neighborhood was not built with sidewalks, so it is never an option. Many main streets (“L” and Industrial Road come immediately to mind) also lack adequate sidewalks.

There was a fun amount of cloud-to-cloud lightning as the line of thunderstorms was developing directly over Omaha. It wasn't much though. I would assume they were stronger to the south and east of here.

The forecast has indeed let off quite a lot. Still a couple warm days left to be had, but I feel this is currently "the dropoff" we were talking about earlier, and right on cue. 9/25. Supposed to get down to 50 or so tonight.

Very real chance for frost Friday (10/11) night going into Saturday (10/12) morning.

In 2018, the frost was arguably on 10/10, but definitely dipped below 32 on 10/14 or 10/15. Things look right on schedule. If so, the forecast in the next few days should show a freeze.

About time to harvest and protect!

They are definitely out in force trying to gather what they can. They weren't too heavy before the last week or so, but they've really kicked it into high gear recently. I think they know a killing freeze is coming too.

Absolutely.. just the last 2 weeks, can’t enjoy sitting outside on the patio without the attack..

That 32 degree low can’t come soon enough.. Kill off those pests, then get back to a few more weeks of 65-70 degree highs and 40-45 degree lows. Perfect late afternoon/evening patio adult beverage weather ...
